SabineTek Introduces SmartMike+ Bluetooth Wireless Microphone at CES 2020

Beijing Sabine Technology Co., Ltd, (also known as Sabinetek) was one of the companies to follow at the CES 2020 show, thank to its latest awarded product – the SmartMike+ Bluetooth Wireless Microphone. Twice recognized at the CES 2020 Innovation Awards, the SmartMike+ is a wireless microphone with real-time transmission and synchronization of full band stereo, applicable for recording interviews, vlogging, and more with smartphones.

The market has seen already a few attempts to use Bluetooth transmission to connect microphones wirelessly to smartphones or other recoding devices. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth standard, as is, doesn't provide the reliability level required for recording audio in highly variable and challenging conditions.

According to SabineTek, the SmartMike+ design is an attempt to sort out those issues, and the world’s first Bluetooth mic that transmits wireless, multi-channel audio at ultra low-latency within a range of 15 meters, allowing users to synchronize audio and video in real time. And SmartMike+ records full band audio at 44.1/48KHz, which is more than six times the frequency of conventional mono microphones (e.g. Apple AirPods).

Thanks to SabineTek's own implementation, it is possible to pair two SmartMike+'s with the SMike+ App via Bluetooth, and the app will automatically switch to TWS mode. Users can then record audio from the two devices simultaneously (TWS Mode), which is ideal for group interviews and all sorts of recordings in large venues and events. Another option is to use the powerful Master/Slave mode, where SmartMike+ can be used with any video recording devices to capture studio quality audio; or with any speaker to amplify the captured audio. Users simply need to hook up one SmartMike+ to their digital camera/GoPro/PC/speaker via a 3.5mm AUX cable to act as a receiver and then can pair another SmartMike+ (to act as a microphone) via Bluetooth. Once paired successfully, the two SmartMike+'s provide full duplex transmission in real time via Bluetooth, within a 15 meters range. The solution can also be used in the same way with any third-party App on a smartphone, for Tiktok, Facebook Live, YouTube Live, etc.

And apart from implementing a versatile Bluetooth transmission scheme, SabineTek also worked on the signal processing to allow unique features. "With an embedded intelligent algorithm, SmartMike+ is always prepared to record optimum acoustics by reducing sounds like wind or background noise like people chatting. The multiple design features for Noise Reduction includes multi-band noise reduction algorithm, adjustable from the SMike+ App; a wind stopper for outdoor usage which is useful for reducing strong wind gusts; an external cardioid microphone pattern to reduce background noise and to keep the microphone focused on the audio source," the company explains.

The SMike+ App also allows users to mix audio from different audio sources in real-time, always keeping audio and video in sync. This is useful for live streaming applications, where the SMike+ App can be used to adjust background music levels, and vocal levels in real-time.

The small SmartMike+ wireless mic design weights only 14g and can be easily clipped to a jacket or the collar of a T-shirt. Independently of the position, the microphone uses noise removing technology to overcome poor sound quality and background noise. The built-in battery can last up to 5-6 hours on a single charge.
