As Røde also explains, this plug-and-play solution leverages the company’s existing digital wireless technology foundation to create a pocket-sized wireless microphone system tailor-made for smartphone creators. Available in both black and white, and with versions for either USB-C or Lightning devices (a foolish decision at this stage, which should have been sorted with a simple converter), the slimline receiver connects directly to a smartphone with no need for cables, making for a super compact and tidy recording setup.
The Wireless Micro solution also features two ultra-compact, ultra-lightweight transmitters (24-bit/48kHz) with integrated clips and magnetic attachments that are incredibly easy to mount on a subject while remaining discreet on camera. The built-in microphones are housed in acoustic chambers with a patent-pending design, purpose-built to capture clear and intelligible audio while mitigating wind noise.
Combining this transmitter design with Røde’s robust wireless audio transmission and intelligent (automatic) GainAssist technology, the Wireless Micro will be able to deliver decent audio almost every time (assuming users understand how to position the lapel transmitters/microphone). Finally, the TWS earbud-inspired charging case is perfectly pocket-sized and delivers two full recharges for up to 21 hours of battery life, all while keeping the system safe and secure – an ideal grab-and-go solution for smartphone creators.
Key features of the Røde Wireless Micro include automatic pairing for the transmitters (a typical pain-point for less experienced users of pro-oriented solutions), carefully selected built-in omnidirectional microphones for “miracle” results even with the microphone pointing in the wrong direction, and intelligent GainAssist technology that automatically controls audio levels. This feature means creators can record upload-ready audio right away, removing the need for editing or post-processing.
The Wireless Micro tries to remove as much friction from the creative process as possible. The transmitters’ ultra-compact form factor and ultra-lightweight build – weighing just 12 grams – are perfect for clipping onto talent while remaining discreet on-camera, and are splash proof so they can even handle inclement weather.
