Asahi Kasei Microdevices (AKM) announced that its new 32-bit premium/advanced multichannel A/D converters series AK555x and AK553x are now available. There are four new converter devices in 2-channel, 4-channel, 6-channel and 8-channel variants in the AK555x series, featuring 115dB S/N and supporting up to 768kHz PCM at 24-bit/32-bit or 11.2MHz DSD256 outputs. The AK553x range, targeting pro audio applications includes 4, 6 and 8-channel variants, featuring 111dB S/N, -103dB THD+N and the same PCM/DSD output capabilities.

The high-end audio market is being driven by the growing availability of high resolution sound sources. Asahi Kasei Microdevices Corporation (AKM) has responded to this market demand and has launched a new generation of premium high-end multichannel A/D converter (ADC), VERITA AK557x series in Feb. 2016. In addition to this ADC series, AKM now released its new premium multichannel ADCs AK555x and advanced AK553x series. In total, there are now 11 products available in this premium/advanced ADC lineup including the already available AK557x series.

The AK555x/AK553x series converters all feature high resolution 32-bit processing using AKM’s proprietary Velvet Sound architecture that has been widely adopted by well-established high-end audio companies. The high resolution processing and noise tolerance designs of the AK555x/AK553x converters allow for the lowest distortion levels in recording applications, while digital output supports up to 768 kHz sampling rates in PCM mode and up to 11.2 MHz or four times DSD (Direct Stream Digital).

This 2/4/6/8-channel line-up provides simple and optimal solutions to multichannel applications by adopting the flexible TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) interface, apart from 3-wire Serial and I2C μP I/F interface, with full differential inputs. The AK555x/AK553x devices are certified AEC-Q100 and for temperature operations up to 105°C in car audio applications.

Ahead of high resolution audio requirements, AKM’s new premium multichannel ADCs AK557x, AK555x and AK553x are all able to respond to various demands of sound systems by covering three types of S/N characteristics and 2/4/6/8-channel configurations. A combination of these ADCs and the AK445x/AK443x 32-bit multichannel DACs enable complete high resolution 32-bit seamless processing from input to output with AKM’s Velvet Sound architecture, featuring four different IRD (Impulse Response Designed) digital filters types.

The new devices are available in 48-pin and 64-pin QFN packages, supporting popular applications in networked audio devices, USB DACs and car audio systems, while the advanced specifications of the AK553x devices are optimized for TDM daisy chain connections in professional audio multichannel systems, such as high-quality multichannel recorders and mixers.
Full specifications and documentation is now available on AKM’s website.
