New iX Range of Coaxial Installation Speakers from APG

November 27 2019, 00:35
APG unveiled its new iX range, a full line of fixed installation coaxial speakers, characterized by a combination of high quality drivers and acoustic baffling that the company says, allows pure point source directivity. For some of the iX models, the French company has created coaxial devices that strike a perfect physical alignment between low and hi transducers. Overall, the range targets a wide variety of fixed installation applications.

Created in 1978, APG is a manufacturer of high quality professional loudspeakers with a tradition of innovation, having introduced its first range of coaxial loudspeakers in 1991, followed by many other unique driver features and designs. The performance and versatility of the brand's systems gained the recognition of demanding professionals all over the world. Since 2016, the company embarked in a new strategy of global expansion in the professional sound reinforcement market.

The new APG iX line comprises five coaxial speaker models: iX5, iX6, iX8, iX12 and iX15; all of which are two acoustic way speakers loaded in bass-reflex for low-frequency extension. APG is also anticipating a future extension of the range with two unique models of pseudo-coaxial speakers – the iX2.5 and IX2.6 – which will be optimized for vocal applications.

The smaller in the range but designed to rival studio monitors in quality of reproduction, the APG iX5 is a miniature, 2-way full range and passive loudspeaker fitted with a 5” long excursion LF driver and a coaxial dome tweeter (120° conical dispersion). Next up, the iX6 is fitted with a 6.5” driver loaded in a bass-reflex while HF is handled by a coaxial dome tweeter (105° conical acoustic opening). It offers clear and precise sound reproduction of mid / high frequencies up to 20 KHz.

In the more conventional form factors, the new APG range includes the iX8, which features a coaxial device fitted with 8" cone driver and independent HF compression driver, offering an homogenous acoustic dispersion of 110°. The iX12 is a 2-way, full-range compact loudspeaker fitted with a coaxial coupling of a 12" woofer with a 1" HF compression driver, while the larger iX15 is a 2-way full range speaker fitted with a 15" neodymium woofer, including a forced thermal ventilation system, and a 1.4" neodymium HF compression driver. The results, APG says, is an exceptional sound pressure capacity down to 60Hz and up to 19KHz.

"From an acoustic point of view, the iX range offers stunning musicality down to low mid and even low frequencies and is characterized by an impressive SPL to size ratio and exceptional sound clarity. The iX range’s non-diffraction baffling creates a perfect linear acoustic response, substantially reducing feedback without the need for equalization. This factor makes the iX range suitable for a variety of purposes, including immersive sound," states Gregory Dapsanse, sales & marketing director at APG.

Design for fixed installation, the speakers are suited to a variety of applications, including main FOH or distributed sound reinforcement (front fill, out fill, in fill, under balcony, delay lines) in all types of venues (theaters, concert venues, clubs, bars, restaurants, conference rooms, congress centers). All models have been optimized to be as compact as possible, with smart accessories for discrete installation, custom colors and a weatherproof finish.

All of the iX speakers are compatible with APG’s SB subwoofers, while the company provides all standard processor settings of APG electronics and customized settings for other brands such as Powersoft.
