Due to the increasing digitalization in the broadcast and A/V market, Neutrik has decided to launch the brand-new mediaCON USB Type-C series. Neutrik built a push/pull lockable and space-saving mediaCON chassis which can be mounted from the rear and front side as well. The mediaCON cable guarantees the performance of 20 Gb/s and is able to transport power up to 100 Watts. The overmolded housing of the cable is designed for a ruggedized strain relief and protects the housing from mechanical stress.
Modern technology and several leading industrial companies have been pushing the boundaries of the universal serial bus (USB) standard. Different markets request smaller, thinner and lighter form-factor designs with better performances and power delivery possibilities. As a result, the USB Type-C connector was born to address this evolving needs all over different industries. Neutrik decided to create the new mediaCON USB Type-C series, leveraging all the possibilities of the reversible connector and USB specifications, and creating a solution that is transparent in terms of data and power delivery applications when using the Type-C connector.
The evolution of the USB standard designed the protocols to be backward compatible so that all older versions are workable with the newer one. Still, if users combine lower USB Versions with newer ones, they will never achieve the higher defined performance. This software protocol doesn`t interfere with Neutrik's mediaCON USB Type-C cable and chassis, making it are already compatible with older versions, or USB3.2 protocol for 20 Gbps. In addition to the common USB Protocols, several other protocols work with mediaCON, like DisplayPort 1.4, MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link), super MHL, HDMI 1.4b and Thunderbolt.
Neutrik AG introduced the new mediaCON family at recent trade-shows since September 2018. The mediaCON product family includes robust, lockable USB Type-C cables and panel sockets. All components are designed for data rates up to 20 GB/s (USB 3.2), 100 W power and 10,000 mating cycles.
“We observe that with increasing digitalization, the demand for high-quality and robust data connectors is steadily increasing. More and more manufacturers rely on USB Type-C technology. However, a lockable and reliable interface to connect professional audio components, storage media, cameras, monitors and computer hardware has been missing”, says Fabio Röllin, Product Manager at Neutrik AG. The new mediaCON series now offers the perfect solution for professional AV and broadcast applications, live rental, system integration and industrial applications.
The space-saving, flush-mount panel socket with push-pull locking mechanism can be mounted from the front or the rear. The moulded casing of the cable connector disappears as it is plugged in by about 75 percent into the built-in socket and locks in place. This ensures not only a reliable connection but also protects against dirt and mechanical stress. mediaCON cables with bend protection are available in lengths of 0.5 and 1 meter. All mediaCON cables and panel sockets are also compatible with standard USB-C products.
