And it's on! Starting with the IFA show in Berlin and until the next CES 2024 in January, the consumer electronics industry is getting ready for a new wave of update announcements, including the first Bluetooth LE Audio "ready" wireless audio transmitters and receiver products. Fresh from its reconversion from Zound Industries into Marshall Group, the legendary brand announced their new flagship TWS earbuds, Motif II ANC. Affordable, up to date with the latest technologies, and with a very familiar form factor.
As we will see in all major new product announcements in the true wireless space, the mandatory feature is now an improved active noise cancellation implementation with practical transparency switching modes, if not fully adaptive. Marshall is a brand intended to appeal to music enthusiasts and not exactly the work-from-anywhere crowd, and so its active noise cancellation is intended mainly to block out crowded train rides and allowing users to enjoy the music without distraction. For a quick conversation, users can switch over to Transparency mode and let the outside in - exactly like millions of people already do with the market reference AirPods Pro, only in black.
As well as an added microphone (because eventually users will need to take calls), the new Marshall Motif II ANC earbuds come ready for Bluetooth LE Audio and to benefit from the features that eventually the mobile industry will introduce in the latest smartphones. One of the clear benefits for users of Android devices is that with BLE Audio, they are no longer connected with the inferior default SBC codec, and will receive audio through the latest generation LC3 codec - that is, for those that are not yet using aptX or any other high quality audio codec options that require persistence to get it working.
Another less obvious benefit of the latest Bluetooth updates is the fact that users will get better connectivity from the streaming source, improving audio sync when watching video, and being able to switch from multiple source devices that have been previously paired.
As important as the TWS specifications these days, is the possibility to control and customize the whole experience through a well-designed mobile app. In the case of the Marshall Motif ANC, there is an updated free Marshall app to define the features that matter the most, including sound profiles.
The Marshall Motif II ANC earbuds deliver more hours of playtime than its predecessor - the Motif ANC. With active noise cancellation, users can now enjoy up to 6 hours of playtime on their own, and up to 30 hours total in the charging case.
According to Marshall, the Motif II ANC design also allows improved battery preservation because of the USB-C intelligent charging and built-in control processor, while the charging case and earbuds are made from 70% post-consumer recycled plastic, including from used electronics, water bottles and automotive light covers. Quick-charging allows users to get 1 hour of playtime in just 15 minutes of charging from a compatible fast charger.
The Marshall Motif II ANC true wireless earbuds are available for preorder starting August 29 for $199 USD or €219 EUR, and will ship to consumers starting September 12.
