Founded in 2022 and comprising a number of smart home solution manufacturers, the Home Connectivity Alliance (HCA) aims to provide a safe, secure and interoperable connected home ecosystem. In addition to LG, its membership includes about 13 global appliance brands including Samsung, Arçelik, Electrolux, Haier, GE Appliances and Trane Technologies. The alliance seeks to enable seamless compatibility of diverse devices and services from different brands through developing and implementing guidelines for Cloud-to-Cloud (C2C) interoperability.
As a board member of the alliance, LG confirms that it aims to bring the convenience of being able to control and monitor other alliance members’ smart home solutions by using the LG ThinQ app. This is in line with the same goals promoted by the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) for interoperability of smart home ecosystems through Matter.
“We’re happy to have LG join our Board of the alliance. As the industry leader, LG understands that interoperability is essential to a truly seamless smart home experience and we are thrilled to have them join the alliance,” said Yoon Ho Choi, President of Home Connectivity Alliance. “Leveraging the collective insights and experiences of our global board members, we will continue to advance the evolution of the connected home and provide consumers with an easier, smarter way of living.”
"We are very pleased to join the board of the Home Connectivity Alliance and excited to work with like-minded companies," says Lyu Jae-cheol, president of the LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company. "The decision to join is consistent with LG’s commitment to open innovation and collaboration, and commitment to provide consumers with more choice and greater convenience in their daily lives and drive the future of the connected home experience."

During IFA 2022 in September, LG and other alliance members exhibiting in Berlin will offer visitors a first look at the cross-brand interoperability of their latest smart home solutions. And this will be particularly interesting since it will allow a glimpse on how the Matter interoperability efforts could work out in the near future. Since LG has been named recently to the Board of Directors of the Matter Alliance because of its leadership role in the global home appliance market.
As a Promoter Member of the CSA Alliance Board of Directors, LG brings a wealth of expertise and experience in smart home and communications technologies to the global organization. The newly appointed Board of Directors members are Don Williams of LG’s Chief Strategy Office and Dr. Sang Kim of LG’s Chief Technology Office. With its elevated role within the Alliance, LG is also actively engaged in the development and standardization of Matter.
"With the adoption and support of Matter, our growing lineup of smart products, including TVs, home appliances and IoT devices and sensors, will be able to connect to each other – and all compatible solutions – more securely and easily. We will continue to deliver innovative customer experiences and help drive the evolution of the smart home forward," says Kim Byoung-hoon, CTO and executive vice president of LG Electronics.

LG aims to provide support for Matter across its convenience-enhancing smart platforms, including the LG ThinQ smart home platform and app and the webOS smart TV platform.
For IFA 2022, LG is presenting a series of new appliances and some new concepts, which include its new air purifier series, the PuriCare Objet Collection Aero Furniture (pictured below). The follow up to the LG PuriCare AeroTower revealed at CES 2022, the new table-type model combines an advanced air purifier, mood lighting and a top surface for charging smartphones and earbuds. All easily controlled using the LG ThinQ app.
