Lavoce Launches Powersoft IpalMod Compatible 18" And 21" Subwoofers

Lavoce Italiana is attending ISE 2022 and announced the official launch of its new SAN184.50iP and SAN216.00iP high motor strength neodymium subwoofers, designed to partner with Powersoft's IpalMod amplifier and software platform (8500W @ 1ohm). Just one of many new products that the dynamic Italian transducer company is presenting as it returns to in-person pro audio trade shows. Lavoce has a heritage of 35 years designing and manufacturing professional loudspeaker components and is now extending its portfolio with new IpalMod compatible subwoofers.

The IpalMod is the hardware/software platform provided by Powersoft and selected loudspeaker manufacturers to implement Integrated Powered Adaptive Loudspeaker (IPAL) technology - a functional solution to overcome the limitations of traditional transducers thereby setting a new state of the art low frequency sound system. The "IPAL approach" allows a sensible increase of the "mains input to acoustic output" efficiency ratio by using full boundary-conditions processing.

This new system can be used in a number of low-frequency applications such as very high power and energy-efficient subwoofers, steerable low-frequency arrays, very low distortion high SPL systems, low-frequency noise, and standing waves removal. IPAL based amplifier/loudspeaker systems offer unprecedented acoustic performances and complete control of the system's sound reproduction, regardless of the acoustic load and conditions. This all translates into more than double output SPL capability with respect to traditional speaker systems with the same driver size. The overall efficiency of the amplifier-loudspeaker system is also superior to any traditional design.

Lavoce's new SAN184.50iP, a 3400W Program Power 18” with 2ohm nominal impedance, and the SAN216.00iP, a 5000W Program Power 21” with 1ohm nominal impedance, are both uniquely characterized by its very high motor strength, high-efficiency and high-power handling, together with exceptional excursion capability (2.1” and 2.5” Peak to Peak respectively).
To compliment the impressive technology of the Powersoft IpalMod amplifiers and software, both models have been designed using Lavoce's proprietary Loudspeakers Design software and advanced FEA techniques. Key features include Ultra-Low Distortion (harmonic and intermodulation) and Reduced Power Compression; achieved by ensuring symmetrical force factor Bl(x) and stiffness, full motor magnetic flux saturation resulting in flat inductance over excursion and current L(x,i), and by the optimization of thermal behavior.

Aimed at OEM manufacturers, Powersoft’s IPAL technology (Integrated Powered Adaptive Loudspeaker) is the only high power, high efficiency, ultra-low distortion, ‘active’ subwoofer system that really connects the amplifier, the speaker/s and the cabinet as a single entity, culminating into an impressive increase in the mains input to acoustic output efficiency ratio.

Using 2 x SAN184.50iP 2ohm or 1 x SAN216.00iP 1ohm with the IpalMod in an optimized and very robust cabinet design, delivers unprecedented overall efficiency of the amplifier-loudspeaker system, together with an outstanding improvement of the audio performance at the lowest frequencies. Fully optimized, this system combination can deliver more than double output SPL capability compared to conventional subwoofer designs, with the added benefit of no perceived aging of the speakers, Lavoce claims. For rental and install companies, this can equate to a vast reduction of the amount of subwoofer cabinets typically required for a project, saving on physical storage space, logistics costs and on-site power consumption.

Features of the Powersoft IpalMod include a Class D amplifier (Max 8500W @ 1ohm / 180 Vpeak) which is designed to work with a load with very low impedance and high inductance, and a Differential Pressure Sensor (DPC) located on the speaker baffle which sends a Zero Latency (10 µs) closed loop reading to the special on-board DSP to change the power output and behavior of speaker/s. At the same time, the IpalMod recycles the Back Electro-Motive Force (BEMF) from the speaker/s into the capacitor bank of the power supply to significantly increase the output efficiency.
Powersoft have created a unique preset to load on the IpalMod for either 2 x SAN184.50iP 2ohm or 1 x SAN216.00iP 1ohm and provide full training on how to set-up and optimize the system. When the system is used in its ‘Pressure mode’ together with a cabinet specifically designed to get the best SPL from the speaker parameters, it will deliver the highest SPL possible with minimum distortion.

IpalMod also has a unique ‘Virtual Transducer mode’ which uses the Differential Pressure Sensor (DPC) and software to enable modifications to the parameters of the loaded preset. This means the OEM manufacturer can make the system perform as if it were using a larger or smaller size of speaker, or with different Small Signal Parameters to completely optimize an existing cabinet design, as well as controlling time response of the speaker and the amplitude at different frequencies.

"Our ground-breaking IPAL technology overcomes the limitations of traditional transducers like no other system, so we are very proud to add Lavoce as another approved transducer partner to enhance its proposition. The IPAL benefits are even more valuable in todays’ challenging global climate, and this new partnership will help make them even more attractive to a wider range of customers around the world," comments Giacomo Previ, Powersoft OEM Sales Manager.

Lavoce Italiana designs and manufactures transducers for professional audio and MI manufacturers and distributors. Its global R&D center is located in Potenza Picena, Italy, and all products are manufactured at their wholly owned state-of-the-art production plant in Jiashan, China (pictured). This factory has over 150 employees trained and specialized in speaker assembly. The 31,000 sqm facility with its modern production capabilities was established in 2008 and is ISO 9001 certified.
Kevin Shove, Lavoce International Sales Director adds, "This technology is truly incredible, so when we were approached by Powersoft to see if we would be interested in becoming an approved transducer partner for the IPAL system, we were honored. Creating approved IPAL compatible subwoofers truly emphasizes the expertise of our Italian R&D team and China Production team, and our continued passion for pushing the boundaries of transducer performance and the pursuit of acoustic excellence."
