The Heavenly Soundworks’ FIVE17 Active Loudspeaker System will be played in public for the first time, since T.H.E. Show will be also the first high-end audio show to take place in the US for 2021.
Heavenly Soundworks is a new company in the high-end audio space, led by the father and son team of Kevin and Jonathan Couch offering an integrated approach to home audio with fully integrated active loudspeaker designs. The FIVE17 is a full-range, bookshelf or stand-mount loudspeaker, and is the first product to come to fruition, out of three related models the company plans to offer. The company designs and hand builds all its active loudspeaker systems in the US, and the FIVE17 is the most compact design, with the company planning a tower version and a reference system based on the same concept.
The FIVE17 3-way active design incorporates dedicated Hypex nCore amplifiers for each driver and a powerful DSP that handles its crossover, timing, and pre-configured listening presets. This option was a fundamental notion motivating the new brand, to try to eliminate trial and error, and maximize the performance of the audio system. The choice for active drivers include a 5” high excursion woofer, a 3.5” lightweight aluminum alloy midrange with neodymium balanced motor structure and 4-layer underhung voice coil, plus a treated soft dome tweeter w/ferrofluid cooled and heat-sinked neodymium motor.
Each driver has a dedicated amplifier built into the enclosure with a total available power of 350 Watts (125W for the woofer, 125W for the Midrange, and 100W for the Tweeter). This approach allows the FIVE17 to claim a frequency response that rivals that of much larger and more expensive systems, from 30Hz up to 20,000Hz and delivering a usable low frequency output down to 24Hz. This bass extension is made possible by using two 8” High Excursion Passive Radiators on the sides of the cabinet.
Even with its small footprint, the FIVE17 offers a generous array of inputs on the back panel, with analog balanced XLR in and through, analog unbalanced RCA input, digital AES in and through, digital S/PDIF in and through, and digital Optical TosLink input. After powering on, the FIVE17 loudspeaker system automatically scans for active audio signals, and locks on to the correct input when a signal is detected.
A unique feature of the FIVE17 system is the three distinct presets that are programmed into each system, each designed for a specific volume range. These presets are based on the latest science available concerning the sensitivity of human hearing at different loudness levels, and ensures that the user experiences the correct frequency response at different perceived levels. Changing presets and adjusting volume is all handled easily with the included remote control.
“At Heavenly Soundworks, our vision is to provide the ultimate audio experience in the easiest way possible,” says Jonathan Couch. “We do this by using the latest science and technology available and we are excited to announce the FIVE17 as our first available product that meets those high standards”.
Heavenly Soundworks products are sold directly from the manufacturer. The FIVE17 speakers are available now. Each set of FIVE17’s is hand built and built to order with a typical lead time of 2 to 4 weeks. Each set is priced at $10,000 USD and includes power cables, digital audio cable (for connecting the two speakers) and remote control. Additionally, matching stands are available for an extra $1,000 USD.
The Heavenly Soundworks’ FIVE17 loudspeaker system will make its debut at T.H.E. Show, 11-13 June, at the Hilton Long Beach Hotel, Long Beach, CA. Heavenly Soundworks will be exhibiting on the third floor, room 308. Kevin and Jonathan Couch, co-founders of Heavenly Soundworks, will be on hand to demonstrate the product and answer questions.
“We have been hard at work perfecting our systems and are looking forward to the opportunity to share them with the audiophile community at T.H.E. Show!”, says Jonathan, co-founder of Heavenly Soundworks.
