Harman Targets Market Lead with New JBL Tour PRO 2 True Wireless and Tour ONE M2 Headphones

August 31 2022, 06:10
It's never a small claim to announce "world’s first," but that was precisely one of the highlights from Harman's press conference at IFA 2022. JBL launched its most powerful and feature-rich headphones yet, the JBL Tour ONE M2 headphones, at the same time as it unveiled the JBL Tour PRO 2 True Wireless Earbuds. The new JBL Tour models combine improved audio, immersive sound, personalization, and improved ANC. The JBL Tour PRO 2 are the first true wireless earbuds to be encased in JBL’s innovative smart case.

The new JBL Tour PRO 2 are a relatively familiar true wireless earbuds form-factor with a major difference on the fact that they are combines with "the world’s first smart charging case." Because it's no longer easy to differentiate on the earbuds, Harman turned its attention to the case, and added a 1.45" LED touch display that enables users to manage their music, customize the earbuds, receive calls, messages and social media notifications in real time, without ever touching your phone. The system was designed for simplified navigation and customization without the need to open the JBL Headphones app.

But the new Tour PRO 2 earbuds are also built for productivity and superior sound, enabling optimized ANC performance by added an Ear Canal Test setup stage, that should be activated when in a noisy environment. Following the process, the user can relax in pure silence as the software does the rest. If users need to take a call, the 6 mic design guarantees crystal clear audio, which is also part of the reason why Harman was able to improve the noise cancellation effectiveness. And these wireless earbuds will last for 10 hours without ANC, with a further 30 in the case.

Regarding the circumaural JBL Tour One M2, the clear target seems to be to compete head-on with the Bose QuietComfort 45, which continue to be one of the world's best selling ANC models. The JBL Tour One M2 were designed not only to look similar to the QC45, but also to outperforming the competition and JBL’s own previous headphones on ANC power and performance.

The JBL Tour ONE M2 headphones combine JBL’s best-ever hybrid True Adaptive ANC with JBL Pro-tuned drivers to please users at work or at home. True Adaptive ANC technology automatically adjusts to the surroundings in real time, eliminating distractions and maximizing the whole listening experience. Advanced built-in voice recognition reacts to the user's voice, pauses music and enables Ambient Aware. The music and True Adaptive ANC automatically resume once the conversation is over.

With up to 50 hours of playtime, or 30 hours with ANC activated, the JBL Tour ONE M2 also outlast even the longest trip. Fast charge adds 5 hours of use in just a shot 10 minute charge. And users will have another reason to call this their own unique headphones, since they support a customized hearing profile using Harman’s advanced Personi-Fi 2.0 for personalized sound performance. This will enhance even more the properties of the new 10mm dynamic drivers.

"We are delighted to introduce the latest JBL Tour line up - the JBL Tour PRO 2 and the JBL Tour ONE M2. Our JBL Tour products are always pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in headphones, and our two new products are packed with innovative technologies. I am delighted with what we have created, particularly the smart charging case of the JBL Tour PRO 2. In our pursuit of new user-centric features, we haven’t ignored the essentials, however, we continue to elevate the audio experience,” says Dave Rogers, President, Harman Lifestyle Division.

For now, Harman doesn't provide any specifications or more details on the immersive sound features it calls "Immersive JBL Spatial Sound". In contrast, it confirms that both products use a Bluetooth 5.3 platform and will be LE audio compatible with an update. The JBL Tour PRO 2 and the JBL Tour ONE M2 will be available in Black and Champagne from January 2023 for €249 and €299 respectively.
