Focal Redefines 3-Way Nearfield Studio Category with New Trio6

In 2022, Focal renewed its core studio monitor line with the introduction of the three ST6 products: the Solo6 and Twin6 studio monitors, together with the Sub12 subwoofer. Now Focal expanded that line with the Trio6 flagship studio monitor, equipped with a Beryllium inverted dome tweeter, a 5" midrange woofer and a 8" subwoofer, also made with composite ‘W’-cone and a 35Hz cut-off frequency. Like the Solo6 and Twin6 monitors, the new Trio6 benefits from Focal's best and latest technologies.

The new flagship Trio6 ST6 studio monitor benefits from Focal’s know-how and innovations, to deliver an extreme versatile, high performance, reliable work tool. This is not in any way a new design. Focal launched and successfully marketed the Focal Trio6 Be studio monitors in 2013, a model that had already benefited from many of the innovations that the company had pioneered in this space. The new Trio6 ST6 takes advantages of the company's latest achievements in speaker design, featuring an 8" woofer composed of proprietary W-sandwich cone material, 5" midrange with Tuned Mass Damper technology and a new and improved 1.5" beryllium tweeter.

Focal is one of the very manufacturers globally that actually forms the beryllium diaphragms in its premises, directly from Materion’s Truextent premium thin foil material. This enables improving its unique pure Beryllium inverted domes and improve the linearity of the speaker's response curve by optimizing the key parameters.

More importantly, the new Trio6 ST6 takes Focal's popular Focus mode feature a step further, offering 1-way, 2-way and full-range configuration switching with a simple foot-switch press. Focal's Focus Mode was introduced in the popular SM9 studio monitors and allows users to quickly switch between full and reduced driver array configurations for comparative mixing. The Trio6 ST6 adds a double Focus mode. In 1-way mode only the monitor’s midrange is active, while in 2-way mode the mid-range plus high-frequency driver are active. Finally in full-range mode all 3 drivers are engaged.
This 3-way monitor also delivers features such as switchable automatic standby mode, high-pass crossover, or a 160Hz crossover to reduce the effect of console reflections. On top of its functionalities, this studio monitor is equipped with a new Beryllium inverted dome tweeter, which delivers a frequency response up to 40kHz, matched with a 5" midrange with an increased frequency range to 10kHz, specifically designed for Focus Mode, and an 8" woofer made with composite ‘W’-cone and a 35Hz cut-off frequency. Like the Solo6 and Twin6, the new Trio6 ST6 benefits from exclusive Focal technologies such as the Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) suspension to reduce distortion in the 1-3kHz frequency range, laminar venting, reinforced cabinetry, infinite acoustic loading (IAL) for additional resonance control, and more.

The new Trio6 ST6’s large laminar port is designed to reduce port noise during operation. Thanks to its strengthened cabinet design, the speaker boasts improved rigidity and damping to control vibrations and significantly lessen distortion. Internally, these active monitors still feature class-G designs for the bass and midrange stages (100W+100W) with a dedicated class-AB 50W amplifier stage for the Be tweeter.

The revamped monitors are designed and assembled at Focal's facility in St Etienne France with a dark red natural wood veneering side panels, and are now available.
