First Resonado FCS Sound System Powers New Airstream Interstate 24X Touring Coach

Audio technology startup Resonado Labs announced that the world’s first-ever Resonado FCS-Enabled sound system will be available in the recently launched first generation of Airstream’s Interstate 24X touring coaches. This is the first of three systems designed by Resonado Labs for Airstream, the other two of which will soon be available in Airstream’s 2022 Atlas, Interstate 24GL, Interstate 24GT, and Interstate 19, all of which will be available later in 2021.

The collaboration with Airstream, revealed in February 2021, represents the first implementation of the company Flat Core Speaker (FCS) technology into a mainstream consumer product. This reconfigured speaker design with a planar voice coil mounted perpendicularly to its flat “race track” diaphragm - an ingenious architecture that enables slightly thinner, lighter, and more efficient speakers than conventional equivalents is a natural fit for automotive audio applications.

"It's a privilege to partner with Airstream, one of the most iconic brands in the world, to debut our technology in the latest addition to their touring coach line-up,” says Resonado Labs Co-Founder and CEO Brian Youngil Cho. “We sincerely believe that this partnership will mark a significant milestone for audio and RV by signaling a change of design expectations at the intersection of these industries."

Resonado Labs’ FCS technology enables a high aspect ratio electrodynamic speaker driver architecture that exhibits pistonic behavior with wide acoustic dispersion. In other words, FCS technology enables speaker drivers with a highly efficient motor in an ultra-slim package for a powerful acoustic experience from a sound system that takes up minimal space – a key value proposition to touring coaches.

“We have always seen ourselves as trailblazers in the recreational vehicle industry, pushing the boundaries of innovation in every detail of our vehicles to optimize what matters most to our customers,” says Airstream VP of Sales, Justin Humphreys. “Implementing Resonado Labs’ breakthrough audio technology into our touring coaches continues our legacy of placing a high value on product design while offering our customers the best performance aspects possible.”

Resonado Labs worked hand in hand with Airstream to design custom speakers built with Resonado Labs’ patented technology to seamlessly integrate into each of Airstream’s 2022 touring coach models. This particular system was designed specifically for Airstream’s Interstate 24X, a rugged, high performance vehicle with a touch of the brand’s signature luxury. The design was created to reflect that sentiment and the brand’s timeless, streamlined aesthetic.

Custom-built to fit perfectly in the vehicle’s rear doors, the FCS-Enabled sound system features 8x Neo Mid 5 midrange speaker drivers engineered with the company’s proprietary FCS technology architecture, and two conventional soft-dome tweeters built into two panels, one for each door, with satin silver grills over each of the eight midrange drivers. The system’s custom speaker panels were also built to give the bottom row of speaker drivers a 5-degree downward tilt, meaning that when the doors are flung open for activities outside of the vehicle, sound is beamed right where it belongs – the listener’s ears.

"This collaboration marks the first time FCS technology is implemented in the RV industry, as opposed to century-old conventional conical speaker type immortalized by the volume icon," Resonado states. Resonado Labs’ entry into the RV market as a new provider of cutting-edge, premium audio, will be soon available to other RV manufacturers through the company's distribution partner RiverPark.
