Embody Announces Hive Immersive Audio Software With Support for All Major Gaming Headsets

June 7 2021, 00:50
If there's an area where immersive audio (aka "spatial" or "3D audio") makes sense, it is certainly for computer gaming - even when it is delivered through binaural rendering through headphones - which is a huge challenge. Embody is a company leading in that space, having delivered spatial audio software with HRTF profiles for Audeze, Steinberg, Logitech, and other pro audio and headphones manufacturers. Now, their new Immerse Gaming by Embody brand announced Hive, a new software that works with almost all gaming headsets.

Embody's Hive software is described as an "AI-Driven spatial audio" solution that works with all PC (Windows) games and gaming headphones, combining the company's Head Related Transfer Function (HRTF) modeling engine that creates a (nearly) personalized 360 soundfield using the game’s native multichannel audio. As previously described, Embody developed a way for users to submit images of their ears to a cloud service, which delivers a generic HRTF that is optimized for each user. Embody uses a machine learning algorithm that models the user's unique hearing anatomy, selecting an adequate HRTF from a single image, captured on a smartphone.

The next step is to optimize the response for each specific headphone model - gaming headsets in the case of the Immerse Gaming solution. Each headset is acoustically tuned to ensure a distortion-free and accurate gaming experience, while maintaining the signature sound quality of the specific headset. Embody worked on this process in applications where spatial audio is used to virtualize a reference "studio" environment, which the user can load to his software DAW. This auralization process was already optimized with specific solutions for Audeze, Beyerdynamic, Logitech, and Audio-Technica.

In 2020, Embody worked with Logitech G, beyerdynamic and Audio-Technica to launch Immerse Gaming spatial audio PC gaming software combining all that experience. Now, with Hive, Embody created a specific Immerse Gaming software for Razer, HyperX, Audeze, Sennheiser, and over 20 of the most popular gaming headsets.

As Embody details, Hive uses each game’s native multichannel audio and enhances directional awareness by allowing users to choose between 3 powerful game genre presets engineered specifically for a wide variety of content. At the same time, the software provides a "Sonar Map", a split-second visual confirmation of where sound is coming from with a semi-transparent overlay on the game screen.

“When we released Immerse Gaming for Logitech G last year, early adopters told us they felt it was the best spatial audio solution available,” says Kapil Jain, Embody Co-founder & CEO. “I’m pleased that we’re now able to offer this amazing AI-driven spatial audio solution on all gaming headsets.”

Hive is available for download at www.immerse.gg with an annual license costing $14.99 or $39.99 for a five-year license. Hive is also available as a Free trial for 14-days without any commitment or credit card requirements, so users can game with it risk-free before deciding to purchase.
