ELAN Celebrates 30 Years at CEDIA 2019 and Introduces New Range of Networked Home Audio Distribution Options

Continuing to transform the smart home experience decades after its inception, ELAN by Nortek Security & Control celebrated its 30th Anniversary at CEDIA 2019. The company displayed a full portfolio of new connected solutions at the Colorado Convention Center, including the new ELAN IP Amplifiers range for whole home audio with support for Dante audio networking, and introducing the latest SC-100 controller with Z-Wave integration for media room and entry-level home control.

According to Nortek Security & Control Sr. Director of Marketing Bill Hensley, in its thirtieth year, ELAN intelligent home control and automation solutions are providing more opportunities than ever for integrators to deliver intuitive, personalized systems – from simple media rooms to the largest luxury homes.

“ELAN solutions have always been designed to simplify and enhance the connected home experience, seamlessly combining all major home systems into one easy-to-use interface,” Hensley says. “After thirty years, ELAN continues to define what personalized smart home control can be.”

CEDIA attendees were able to try the new ELAN Intelligent Touch Panels now featuring support for face recognition and a microphone-array that enables voice control, while the high-resolution display is ideal for monitoring and playback from ELAN Surveillance cameras and NVR. These panels can be integrated with the latest ELAN Video Doorbell, which integrates motion analytics to eliminate false alerts that cause many users of doorbell cameras to turn off the notices altogether. The new Doorbell camera also integrates with ELAN Surveillance for video recording and monitoring.

Another innovation is the ELAN Management Cloud, providing integrators full visibility and control over all of their intelligent system deployments and enabling smoother installations with more service opportunities.

ELAN introduced Dante audio networking in its new range of IP audio distribution amplifiers for whole home audio. According to the the company, Dante audio networking adds flexibility and reduces installation costs for multi-room audio projects.

IP Amplifiers
Among the latest new solutions in audio distribution, the new ELAN Audio over IP range of amplifiers simplifies and decentralizes audio installations by eliminating long speaker cable runs. And as primary TV sources are moving to set-top streaming boxes (Apple TV, Roku), the range – including multi-channel amplifiers and local source pre-amps – also leverages Dante digital audio networking to give installers the ability to make use of these local sources in multiple rooms.

Improving both the integrator and end-user intelligent home experience, the new line of ELAN IP Amplifiers enhance the whole home audio experience by delivering audio over existing networks, while Dante audio networking adds flexibility and reduces installation costs for multi-room audio projects. The audio is delivered between devices over the network, replacing expensive analog cabling with low-cost category cable.
“Distributed multi-zone audio traditionally requires long speaker cables that run back to the equipment rack,” ELAN Product Manager Jeff Shaw explains. “The new ELAN Audio over IP solution simplifies and decentralizes audio installations by eliminating these long speaker cable runs and expanding multi-room audio possibilities.”

“Projects with audio zones that are physically separated – a pool house, for example – can be part of the whole house audio system by connecting over the network,” Shaw adds. “Secondary amps can be placed in remote locations closer to the speakers, eliminating long speaker cable runs.”

"ELAN Audio over IP is making installations easier and faster, thus reducing costs," Shaw concluds. "This is another one of our intelligent solutions designed to meet the needs of integrators and their customers."

Entry-Level Controller
Also debuting at CEDIA 2019, the new affordably priced ELAN EL-SC-100 controller is ideal for improving the media room control experience, and its Z-Wave integration makes it a robust and scalable intelligent home control choice for production home builders.

“This new controller expands opportunities for integrators in multiple ways,” says Jeff Shaw. “The SC-100 is ideal for improving the media room control experience, and its Z-Wave integration makes it a robust and scalable intelligent home control choice for production home builders.”

The integrated Z-Wave gateway eliminates the need for dealers to add third-party hardware to control Z-Wave devices and easily expand to whole home control. For the media room, the EL-SC-100 features an on-screen display option that gives users the ability to control and manage their home right from the TV.
