Devialet Introduces Devialet Mania Portable Smart Speaker

November 8 2022, 01:10
Devialet dropped another surprise product, this time with a new compact smart speaker that is also the brand's first custom-designed battery-operated multiroom wireless speaker. Inheriting technology from the unique Devialet Phantom, the new Mania features adaptive cross stereo that generates expansive 360° stereo sound, with a soundstage that morphs and adapts to any physical space. The Mania is Alexa-enabled and powered by four ARM Cortex-A53 1.4Ghz processors.

The new Devialet Mania is definitely not a cheap, plastic Bluetooth speaker. It was designed by the French audio manufacturer to deliver a high fidelity portable smart speaker with 360° stereo sound, in line with Devialet’s signature obsession for merging impactful sound with a mobile design. As a true smart speaker the Devialet Mania is able to adapt in real-time to any room or space, delivering music anywhere it goes.

At the same time, the compact co-spherical speaker is also a complete streaming player. Thanks to Devialet Mania's dual streaming capabilities, users have the choice between Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. When indoors, users can connect via Wi-Fi to use Spotify Connect and Airplay 2, and when out of home, the Devialet Mania's Bluetooth auto-activates. The sound also adjusts to the different usage scenarios.

Devialet's real-time acoustic mapping technology, Active Stereo Calibration (ASC), uses four-room calibrating microphones and the embedded intelligence capabilities to allow the Devialet Mania to automatically map and evolve the audio rendering based on its surroundings. Combined with Devialet's Speaker Active Matching (SAM), the Devialet Mania is able to adjust the signal reproduction to deliver optimal fidelity of any source and in all environments. Finally, the mentioned cross-stereo architecture, diffuses stereo for any listening position around the product.

Inside the Devialet Mania there are four aluminum full-range drivers and two push-push woofers that cover the entire audio spectrum from bass to medium to treble. A Class-D amplifier module delivers four 25W channels for each of the smaller full-range speakers, while a dedicated Class-D amplifier delivers two 38W channels to the woofers. The design was engineering to generate Devialet's cross-stereo rendering, being able to achieve 95dB SPL measured at 1 meter with unnoticeable distortion in the extended frequency response.

The design features a top handle for ease of movement and is IPX4 splash-resistant rating for outdoor use. A luxurious woven skin swathes its exoskeleton, which in turn protects the technologies held within. Devialet's first built-in battery (3200mAh) delivers up to 10 hours of wireless streaming and can be charged via USB-C PD. The Devialet Mania Station, an add-on wireless charging dock, allows user to charge up the speaker while in use at home. The more expensive Devialet Mania Opéra de Paris edition package comes with a complimentary Devialet Mania Station.

The new design also runs on DOS2, the same software ecosystem as Devialet Phantom and Devialet Dione soundbar. And that means set-up and customization are seamless in the Devialet App, allowing users to define Wi-Fi settings, set up the device with Alexa, receive software updates, personalize equalizer levels, and more. The Devialet Mania is voice assistant-integrated when connected to Wi-Fi. Users can simply say "Alexa" to play any favorite song, skip to the next track, change the volume, have Alexa read the news and more. And Alexa on Devialet Mania makes it possible for users to control their smart home by using voice.

The Devialet Mania is available now for $790 USD. Extending a long standing partnership with the Paris Opéra, the Devialet Mania range also includes a Paris Opéra edition, embellished with 24-carat gold and including a docking station for easy charging, also available separately to other Devialet Mania models for $80 USD.
