This adapter supports USB-C devices with DP Alt Mode support and Thunderbolt 3 port / Thunderbolt 4 ports, and also supports HDR for expanded color range and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for lag-free gaming, together with surround sound audio. This will be a solution needed for users who want to take advantage of 8K resolution support on a desktop computer with newer Nvidia RTX 2000 series and AMD Radeon RX6000 series graphics cards or a laptop with 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake CPU and Intel Iris Xe graphics.
The new Cable Matters adapter offers a premium construction, ideal for portability, with a premium braided cable for durability, metal connectors and an aluminum enclosure. The design and small form factor enable it to fit in a laptop or tablet carrying case. Cable Matters also announced a new USB-C Video Cable supporting 8K as specified in HDMI 2.1, perfect for a more permanent installation in a home office or entertainment center.
"Cable Matters' USB-C video adapter is among the first to offer 8K performance as specified in HDMI 2.1 over USB-C," says Cable Matters President and CEO Jeff Jiang. "As USB-C and display resolutions beyond 4K become ubiquitous, customers can trust Cable Matters to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions at the cutting edge of consumer electronics."
Both new products utilize the Cayenne family of USB-C video interfaces created by Synaptics. The Cayenne chipset provides advanced video features like HDR, ultra high definition resolutions, and fast refresh rates in a secure, universal, low-cost, and low-power design.
"Synaptics' Cayenne chipset enables companies like Cable Matters to provide reliable, high-bandwidth video solutions that push the performance envelope," says Synaptics Senior Marketing Director for Video Interface Products, Jeff Lukanc. "We are proud to work with Cable Matters to bring the industry's first converter chipset supporting 8K as specified in HDMI 2.1 to market with a leading brand in the consumer electronics industry."
