Pioneer Expands AVR Line with New 7.2 Channel and 5.2 Channel Receivers

March 7 2024, 00:35
Pioneer, the brand that is now managed by VOXX Consumer, unveiled  two new integrated audio video receivers, updated with all the latest technologies for home theater. The new VSX-835 and VSX-535 receivers are two welcome additions to the Pioneer home theater range, adding features such as Dolby Atmos support, updated HDMI 2.1 for 8K/4K Ultra HD sources with HDR, room calibration, and updated Bluetooth wireless.

Following the Pioneer/Onkyo debacle in Japan, in 2021 VOXX International Corporation announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Premium Audio Company, acquired certain assets of the audio/video business of Onkyo Home Entertainment Corporation. From that moment, Premium Audio owns Onkyo and Integra products, IP and brands, and markets and sells the Pioneer and Pioneer Elite brands worldwide, except in China.

So, it's good to actually see new products from Pioneer being announced and particularly in this home theater category which is seeing expansion in many markets that have been revitalized after the global pandemic. Particularly because these new products offer a strong combination of features at entry-level prices: the VSX-835 at USD $499, and the VSX-535 at $379.
The new Pioneer VSX-835 stands-out with the latest technology for home theater and gaming with IMAX Enhanced Certification, Dolby Atmos and Dolby Surround, DTS Virtual:X, HDMI 2.1 with support for 8K/4K Ultra HD sources, and Bluetooth streaming. These features are complemented with the ability for owners to calibrate their systems to their space and 7.2 or 5.2.2 speaker setups with Pioneer's own MCACC Auto Room Tuning software.

The second model, the Pioneer VSX-535 is a 5.2 amplifier but is also decodes Dolby Atmos and Dolby Surround sources, and features HDMI 2.1, and Bluetooth streaming, being able to deal with the highest quality 4K/120Hz and 8K resolution. The VSX-535 can also be perfectly calibrated to the space and speaker setup with the proprietary MCACC Auto Room Tuning software.
The Pioneer VSX-835 and VSX-535 both offer the latest in HDMI processing including 4K 120Hz pass through for the ultimate gaming experience. The VS835 also delivers powerful HDR images and sound with IMAX digitally remastered content. The IMAX Enhanced Mode is meticulously optimized to adhere to strict performance standards around color, brightness, contrast, and audio fidelity. Full support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) video includes HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision, and BT.2020 on both models. Additionally, 4:4:4 color space is also supported.

The VSX-835 and VSX-535 offer 4 In and 1 Out (eARC) HDMI I/O, ARC-ready MAIN OUT, and SUB OUT pass 4K/60p and HDR video from player to compatible TV and projector; and all terminals are HDCP 2.2 compliant.

The VSX-835 supports DTS:X and automatically adapts audio to existing channels and speaker setups, so no specific speaker layout is required. Upping the ante, DTS Virtual:X adds nuanced, three-dimensional sound without height or rear speakers. The Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer also allows users to experience immersive sound without the additional speakers.

MCACC (Multi-Channel ACoustic Calibration system) auto room tuning uses a custom microphone to automatically compensate for differences in speaker size, level, and distance, and equalizes response, so users can get the best possible performance in their actual rooms.
