Beyerdynamic Introduces Free BYRD True Wireless ANC Earbuds

July 7 2022, 16:10
Beyerdynamic's long-anticipated debut into the world of true wireless stereo (TWS) earbuds pairs modern product design with the brand's audio signature, superior voice quality, aptX Adaptive, and digital active noise cancellation. The German brand is finally entering the TWS category with the release of Free BYRD, featuring a unique design, reminiscent of the classic guitar pick and the classic beyerdynamic headphones.

By combining the experience of the company's engineering and manufacturing, the new Free BYRD true wireless earbuds were designed to stay true to beyerdynamic's legendary audio quality, while providing users with meaningful experiences anywhere, anytime. Apart from the differentiating design and sound quality, the new Free BYRD earbuds offer features like easy Bluetooth pairing, active noise canceling (ANC), Mimi Sound Personalization and up to 11 hours of battery life - all strong arguments at an affordable price point of $249.00 USD retail.

The release marks the first time the company has brought its product signature - designed and developed in Heilbronn, Germany - to compact true wireless earbuds. beyerdynamic says that its obsessive attention to sound quality and detail, paramount in
every product brought to market, was no exception in the design and engineering of the Free BYRD earbuds.

The unique acoustic design was intended to accommodate the powerful 10mm drivers, which are able to translate premium audio quality when combined with the latest aptX Adaptive and AAC codecs when listening to music, watching the latest series, or gaming during a commute. The digital ANC implementation uses hybrid technology in order to deliver the same sound experience with consistent quality and no distracting ambient noise. Ambient noise can be easily mixed in via Transparency Mode, so users can go from an immersive soundscape to a meaningful conversation with just a tap of the earbuds.

Key to the earbuds performance is also a comfortable and secure fit. The Free BYRD earbuds include five different silicone earpieces designed by beyerdynamic to ensure the best possible fit with a focus on in-ear ergonomics, while three additional memory-foam earpieces are included for use during sporting activities. The Free BYRD construction is splash-resistant with IPX4 certification to protect against sweat during extreme workouts or rain while on the go.

Another critical aspect that beyerdynamic did not forget is speech intelligibility during phone calls or meetings, even in a noisy environment. Thanks to the inclusion of Qualcomm dual 2-mic cVc technology and a total of four microphones, two each on the left and right earpieces of the Free BYRD earbuds, phone calls will sound natural and clear. The earbuds also support Google Fast Pair for Android devices, while Bluetooth connection options are available on iOS, Mac OS, and PC devices.

The Free BYRD true wireless earbuds are also certified by both Amazon and Apple for use with ‘Alexa’ and ‘Siri’ voice assistants, while gamers and series fans will benefit from the Low Latency Mode which ensures perfect synchronization between image and sound. A Light Guide System helps facilitate different user operations such as the Bluetooth pairing mode by using different color LEDs.

The Free BYRD earbuds can also be connected to beyerdynamic’s updated MIY app, which offers access to the MOSAYC (Attention to Detail with Mimi Sound Personalization) features. After a listening test of just two minutes, the sound and settings of the earbuds can be personalized within the app and completely adapted to the individual user’s hearing profile. Thanks to the transparency feature, users can also hear their own voices during phone calls, and the equalizer offers customization of audio content to one’s preference with presets. In addition, the app can be used to keep the earbuds up to date with the latest technology via over-the-air firmware updates.

"We are not the first company to release true wireless earbuds," says Edgar van Velzen, CEO of beyerdynamic. "However, we are the first to release true SOUND wireless earbuds with the MOSAYC – Attention to Detail with Mimi Sound Personalization. We’re proud to have prioritized sound quality over market pressures, and with this time taken, have successfully achieved a new level of development in sound performance, offering audio enthusiasts the perfect pair of in-ear TWS earbuds that look and feel as great as they sound."

Thanks to its larger design, the beyerdynamic Free BYRD earbuds have an extra-long battery life of up to 11 hours after a single charge. For charging, the earbuds can be stored in the compact charging cradle/case at any time, powered via USB-C or Qi wireless pads. If users are in a hurry, a quick 10-minute charge provides up to 70 minutes of listening pleasure.

The beyerdynamic Free BYRD true wireless earbuds come in either Black or Gray and are available now for $249.00 from the beyerdynamic store or Amazon.com.
