Bassboss Releases SV9 Single 9" Powered Monitor for Intimate Events and Acoustic Venues

Los Angeles, CA-based powered loudspeaker manufacturer Bassboss released the SV9 single 9" Powered Monitor, a new full-range and wide dispersion design described by the company as "a deeply satisfying mix of studio quality audio clarity, surprisingly deep low frequencies, very high output, wide dispersion, and long-throw." The durable design is equally at home in a wide variety of settings where quality audio is imperative and is labelled as a "socially-distanced crowd pleaser."

The Bassboss SV9 is a studio-quality, high-output speaker design with capabilities that extend beyond the limits of a recording setting. According to the company, the SV9 can be used for sound reinforcement duties in any type of environment, benefiting from a rugged finish, convenient handles, grilles and a substantial amount of power. For small groups, the 90º dispersion and extended throw allow audiences to experience the music deeply, even with comfortable distancing.

"In practical terms, the SV9 is a very compact and portable system for those who need premium quality and impressive output. The crowds can’t be big, but the experiences can be that much more memorable and precious when the sound is as intimate as the event," the company explains.

This single 9" loudspeaker was designed to compare to much larger loudspeakers in response and output. It is able to deliver a maximum sustained output of 118dB SPL (@1m, 2pi, half-space) and a nominal maximum SPL (Peak) of 121 dB. Such performance from a very small enclosure is made possible by the decidedly different design and component choices.

The Birch plywood enclosure is strong and solid, and easily portable. The 9" woofer features a large voice coil and a rubber surround for high power handling and smooth response. The built-in 1200 W RMS amplifier - a Class D SMPS design with PFC, offering 2-channels: 800W for LF and 400W HF - offers abundant headroom, while the proprietary Bassboss DSP processing ensures a controlled response. The new DSP also offer multiple presets to support a variety of configurations.

The SV9 provides an extremely flat frequency response with a neutral character for side-fills and stage reinforcement duties and, thanks to lots of power, it delivers remarkably high output for its size. With an enclosure of only 18" x 10" x 15", it can fit nearly anywhere, and at just 26 pounds, it’s easy to move. One SV9 can be carried in either hand, so smaller events can be loaded in and out with ease.

The SV9 uses an annular diaphragm ring-radiator 1.5" Neodymium HF driver. Its lighter diaphragm results in lower distortion and extended HF response, while the neodymium motors provide increased sensitivity with less weight. The high-frequency dispersion of 90 x 60 can be adjusted thanks to the rotatable horn-loaded section. The custom developed 9" Neodymium low-frequency driver provides larger displacement and higher sensitivity. The 2.5" voice-coil offers greater power handling and higher output, and the single-roll rubber surround provides a very smooth frequency response.
