B&C Speakers is now shipping its new MBX Series. The new MBX series of mid-bass woofers is available in 6.5-inch, 8-inch, and 10-inch frame sizes. Designed as a solution for two way systems and multi-driver applications, the new series offer a balance between low and mid frequency reproduction, with high sensitivity for reduced amplifier current requirements. All woofers feature a neodymium ring magnet, copper-clad aluminum voice coil wire, ventilated voice coil gap, weatherproof hydrophobic paper cones, and an aluminum demodulation ring.

“The MBX mid-bass woofers offer acoustic designers a new range of high efficiency, wide bandwidth alternatives that are not currently available in our product range,” says Alessandro Pancani, Chief Technology Officer for B&C Speakers. “These woofers are a welcome addition to our catalogue and will allow our OEM partners to enhance their products and push the market forward.”

These full-featured transducers incorporate lightweight neodymium motors, inside/outside wound copper clad aluminum wire voice coils, and a symmetrical inductance profile. All woofers are built upon a cast aluminum basket that serves not only as a lightweight framework, but also increases power handling and heat dissipation. Low moving mass and FEA optimized high strength magnetic circuits provide fast transient attack, while the brand’s specially treated surround and spider damp distortion-inducing resonances quickly. This series also introduces a new hydrophobic cone treatment, offering extreme weather protection without increased moving mass.

The series includes the 6MBX44 6.5-inch model with 400 W continuous program power capacity, a 115 to 5000 Hz response with 98 dB sensitivity, featuring a 44 mm (1.7 in) aluminum voice coil. The neodymium magnet offers a very light yet powerful motor assembly, while the aluminum ring allows a very low distortion figure.

The 8MBX51 8-inch model was designed for 400 W continuous program power capacity, offering a targeted response from 60 to 4000 Hz with 96.5 dB sensitivity, featuring a 50 mm (2 in) copper voice coil and the same neodymium ring magnet assembly. The woofer also features an aluminum ring to allow for a very low distortion figure, with ventilated voice coil gap for reduced power compression.

Finally, the larger 10MBX64 10-inch woofer offers 700 W continuous program power capacity and extended frequency response from 65 to 6000 Hz with a 99 dB sensitivity. It features a 64 mm (2.5 in) aluminum voice coil with neodymium inside slug magnet assembly and aluminum demodulating ring, which also warrants a very low distortion figure. This mid-bass woofer also features a ventilated voice coil gap for reduced power compression.

As B&C Speakers details, this series is the result of years of research into new cone formulations and coatings, which resulted in wide-bandwidth transducers with exceptional sensitivity. “MBX series woofers were designed from the ground up to enable the current design trend towards two-way systems that have few compromises compared to the three or four way designs that were popular recently. Naturally, they are equally applicable to the cinema or install markets where they can be used either as an extended low frequency midrange, or as the sole low frequency component. When coupled with B&C’s latest generation subwoofers and compression drivers the MBX series completes today’s highest performance loudspeaker systems.”

Besides their wide applicability, the MBX series was carefully designed with cost in mind. “By working closely with suppliers, our engineering team was able to offer this series at reduced cost without compromising the famous B&C performance and quality. All our transducers are designed and manufactured at our headquarters in Bagno a Ripoli, Italy to the same exacting standards. Whether you’re a new customer looking for the latest technologies or have been working with B&C Speakers your entire career, the MBX series has something new to offer. We hope the MBX series of mid-bass woofers will help our customers in continuing to develop the world’s best loudspeakers for the world’s most critical applications,” the company adds.
