AIAIAI Creates New TMA-2 DJ XE Modular DJ Headphones

July 28 2023, 00:35
Danish audio design company and headphone innovator AIAIAI unveiled its latest modular DJ performance headphones that are also perfect lifestyle statements. The new TMA-2 DJ XE on-ears evolve from the company's TMA-2 platform - with a wink and a nudge to the Sennheiser HD 25's - offering a cleaner and more mature design, with clear sound for high volume levels, better sound isolation, and weighing only 168g. Shipping late August 2023 for EUR €140.

Described by AIAIAI as "modular DJ headphones with balanced sound for DJ performance and music exploration," the new TMA-2 DJ XE headphones benefit from the company's signature bio-diaphragm drivers, engineered to deliver high volume levels and minimize distortion when performing in loud environments. Weighing only 168g for enhanced comfort over extended periods of time, the TMA-2 DJ XE headphones are the ultimate option for DJs and music creators alike.

This versatile new headphone design from AIAIAI focuses on flexibility and mobility, featuring a new balanced sound profile, extending the XE line as a high-quality tool at an accessible price point. As AIAIAI explains, the new model was specifically designed for live performance, delivering a punchy bass and enough volume to be useful on a DJ booth, while still delivering a balanced sound. A combination that has also proven well between music creators, performers, and anyone that needs to explore and discover music all the time.

Part of the secret is in the speaker driver unit that contains a bio-cellulose diaphragm made from bacterial cellulose, an organic compound grown using certain types of bacteria. This type of diaphragm from bio-cellulose is stiffer, lighter, and stronger than regular PET diaphragms. As AIAIAI discovered early on, bio-cellulose diaphragms vibrate with lower levels of distortion, and have been offered as one of the alternatives in the company's TMA-2 modular headphones platform.

The TMA-2 DJ XE drivers are 40mm 32 ohm designs using high-grade neodymium magnets. For this particular lighter configuration, as AIAIAI defines, the result is a more accurate and detailed response, with the ability to retain clarity of sound at high volumes. Specifications detail 100mW maximum power (40mW rated). "Put to the test and trusted in the most vigorous environments - on the road, in the studio, and on stage. This requires the highest standards and zero compromise," the company states.

One outstanding feature of the new TMA-2 DJ XE (particularly compared with many competitive models in this class) is the slim headband design made from high grade nylon covered in neoprene, with a soft, durable PU foam padding, which contributes greatly to its lack of weight and comfort. Otherwise, AIAIAI uses parts made from 30% recycled plastics, while the ear-cushions are made from soft and resilient vegan leather.

The TMA-2 DJ XE also comes with a number of specific features suitable for live DJing, including adjustable cups, cable locks to ensure the cable is not pulled out while playing, and an angled stereo 3.5mm mini jack for a less intrusive and safer connection from the source, making it also easier to use the stereo 1/4" jack adaptor. The standard cable is a straight 1.5m black thermo plastic cable with soft touch surface, but users can order a coiled cable instead.

Following AIAIAIs philosophy of designing headphones that can keep up with the evolving needs and styles of users, the new TMA-2 DJ XE configuration still benefits from interchangeable components such as earpads, cables, and even drivers. Users can order the standard model, and can upgrade or change parts of the headphones to improve sound quality, comfort, and style, from the complete TMA-2 modular headphone system and all interchangeable components. And AIAIAI also offers a lifetime trade-in and resale of all its products to keep them in circulation and reduce its environmental impact.
