April 30 2021, 01:10
The Audio Engineering Society has announced new Keynote and Heyser Lecture presentation details for the upcoming AES Show Spring 2021 Convention special events series, streamcast online, May 25 – 28. Keynote speakers will include audio science and technology innovators Lenise Bent, Marina Bosi and Eelco Grimm, with this Convention’s Heyser Memorial Lecture being given by hearing and psychoacoustics pioneer Diana Deutsch.

In an isolated world, it’s more important than ever to stay on top of technology and in contact with colleagues. The AES Show Spring 2021 International Convention will offer a comprehensive Technical Program allowing everyone to stay informed and stay in touch - online.

Offering a variety of ways for attendees to “Listen, Learn and Connect” with the global audio community, this milestone AES convention will bring a diverse array of expertise on important and enlightening topics. Of note is this year’s Heyser Memorial Lecture – a traditional part of each AES Convention – which will be given by AES Gold Medal award-winner Diana Deutsch on “Two Perceptual Puzzles: Audio Illusions and Perfect Pitch.” Deutsch will discuss her lifelong research into the understanding of the human hearing mechanism and the science of psychoacoustics, while showcasing demonstrable examples of common but misunderstood auditory phenomena that play a part in a listener’s perception and utilization of sound. The presentation will be followed by a live Q&A session with attendees.

Additionally, topics have been announced for the AES Show’s three keynote presentations: Engineer/Producer Lenise Bent will give the keynote “Creative and Alternate Audio Adventurers”; AES Fellow, Past President and current Treasurer-Elect Marina Bosi will give the keynote “A Peek Under the Hood of Perceptual Audio Coding: A Review of the History and a Look into the Future”; and high-end gear developer, audio researcher and educator Eelco Grimm will deliver the keynote “Loudness Normalization, a Personal History.”

Further AES Show Spring 2021 Convention details and registration are now online, outlining a variety of sessions on topics including Acoustics & Psychoacoustics, Archiving & Restoration, Automotive Audio, Broadcast & Online Delivery, Education, Electronic Dance Music, Electronic Instrument Design & Applications, Game Audio/Audio for Virtual and Augmented Reality/Spatial Audio, Historical Events and Innovations, Networked Audio, Product Development, Recording & Production, Student & Career Development, Sound Reinforcement, Special Events, and more.

The AES Show will once again provide top-tier educational events, workshops and tutorials, panel discussions, networking opportunities and more, designed to bring together audio engineers, students, researchers, educators and other industry luminaries ready to engage in all things audio. Taking advantage of proven interactive and streaming technologies, the AES Show Spring Convention will offer three channels of content streamcast in Central European Summer Time, with additional sessions available on-demand. Streamcast sessions will join the on-demand library within 24 hours following their scheduled presentation to assure attendees a chance of catching nearly every event that the AES Show has to offer.

“The finest traditions of AES Convention Technical Programs are being realized in this 150th AES International Convention,” says Bert Kraaijpoel, Convention Co-Chair. “The content will span the full scope of professional audio.”

Convention Co-Chair Ruud Kaltofen adds, “The latest in audio research, technology and application will be presented by the best minds in the industry. And, as the Technical Program is available to anyone with an internet connection, without travel expense or risk, and affordably priced, the opportunity to learn is simply outstanding.”

“The 150th Convention will build on the Society’s growing expertise in creating successful online events, continuing to improve the participant experience,” says Rafael Kassier, AES Show Spring 2021 Workshops & Tutorials Chair. “Along with outstanding content, we’ve worked diligently to include increased networking opportunities for attendees as well as interaction between attendees and presenters – the community aspect of AES Conventions that’s been so missed in a year of isolation.”
