From a geographic perspective, the Nordic region has provided us with several major innovations in measurement microphones, transducers, and acoustic analyzers. The Nordic region contains the “FINDS” countries of Finland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Several important test and measurement companies are based in this region.
On Acoustic Patents, James Croft (Croft Acoustical) reviews two loudspeaker-related patents as a tribute to David John Graebener, who passed away on January 3, 2015. James Croft reviews his planar-magnetic electro-acoustic transducer, and a single-end planar magnetic speaker system, two of David’s key patents - the first and second of the Single-Ended, Neodymium planar magnetic transducer patents he was granted.
On Industry Watch, Vance Dickason, Patrick Turnmire (Redrock Acoustics), James Croft and Ed Jaeger (CEO of Wisdom Audio, who worked with David at both Wisdom Audio and Bolender-Graebener, now BG Radia), remember the life and career of David Graebener.
This month’ Test Bench discusses the 12NDL88 from B&C Speakers, a new 12” high sound pressure level (SPL) woofer with a neodymium motor. Vance Dickason was impressed with the features of this 12” driver from the Italian brand, an addition to an already extensive line up of 12” pro sound woofers - 18 in total - which include eight neodymium motor 12” and 10 ferrite motor 12”. The 12NDL88 is in the upper range of power handling in this extensive group with a continuous power handling rating of 1,400W (700 W RMS). Applications range from two and three-way PA speakers and compact two-way designs for high SPL in limited spaces.
