Roswell Pro Audio Introduces Custom Microphone Shop

July 24 2024, 01:10
Roswell Pro Audio, the boutique microphone company founded by Matthew McGlynn, also the creator of RecordingHacks and DIY microphone kit shop Microphone-Parts, now launched a new Custom Shop Mic Builder tool to provide customization options for their popular Mini K line of microphones. The new online configurator offers over 1,800 combinations of cosmetic options, circuit modifications, additional features as well as accessory options to create unique looks and sounds.

Roswell Pro Audio are microphones that provide a distinctive sound and a level of performance normally associated with far more expensive devices, totally hand-built from custom parts ate the company's headquarters in Northern California. The company outgrew its rural workshop during the pandemic, and moved into a newly remodeled and purpose-built space in 2022. This is what allows Roswell to do all the design, assembly, testing, and tuning of all its microphones in-house. And that's also the reason why the company is able to offer a Custom Shop Mic Builder online tool.

"We’ve been offering our customers a base level of customization for a while now," says Matt McGlynn. "But our new customization configuration tool takes it to the next level. Customers can quickly put together various combinations right on our website. We then hand-build the custom mic to order, test and ship it directly from our shop in California."

Custom finish options for the body of the mics are produced in small quantities so that Roswell can offer new and different finishes from time to time, making custom options more unique. Current color options include Agent Orange, Deep Purple, Imperial White, None More Black, Seafoam of Tranquility and many more. Custom grille options include Satin Nickel, Chrome, Matte Black, and Chrome Black.
Mini K microphones can also be configured with modifications to the circuit, providing options for recording various sources in the studio. Customers can choose a "high output" mod that provides more sensitivity for recording quiet sources like voiceover, classical guitar, and foley or a "high SPL" mod with a 10dB pad to accommodate loud sources such as horns, screaming vocals or drums.

McGlynn's deep experience with hundreds of microphones over many years — learning how they're built, and why they sound the way they do — borrows from the research and development work done by RecordingHacks and Microphone-Parts.com, and selling premium studio microphones in "do it yourself" kit form. This deep understanding of how microphones are built and how they sound is what led to Roswell Pro Audio, providing microphones with a distinctive sound and a level of performance normally associated with far more expensive products.
