Tascam introduced the DA-3000SD 2-channel DSD/PCM Master Recorder with AD/DA Converter. Following in the footsteps of the original DA-3000, the new DA-3000SD adds support for high-capacity SD card media and user-focused enhancements to provide more control over the recording process. Designed for recording, mastering, and monitoring, the new Tascam DA-3000SD offers a rich feature set that makes the unit a versatile choice for recording studios of all sizes.

Most master recordings these days are made directly on a DAW, sometimes using a separate computer just to safeguard the results of a session, which usually involves automating complex mixing decisions. Having a dedicated master recorder that is optimized for high-resolution DSD/PCM master files is a great to gain operational flexibility and piece of mind in audio archival, mastering, and live recording.

With its ability to meet the high-capacity recording requirements of recording studios and live sound sessions, the new Tascam DA-3000SD offers support for up to 512GB SDXC card media — providing over 100 hours of 2-channel audio recording at 24-bit/192kHz, and giving technicians the storage capacity to tackle extensive audio recording projects efficiently.

In response to user feedback, the DA-3000SD offers volume control over the internal oscillator for more precise calibration. Enhanced calibration capability, along with support for future-proof DSD recording, makes the DA-3000SD the ideal choice for use with reel-to-reel tape machines and audio applications where precise monitoring can make or break the project.

With its support for DSD (Direct Stream Digital), the DA-3000SD makes a terrific professional grade standalone recorder. By recording one's audio as DSD or "1-bit" digital audio, the audio can be converted to any necessary PCM file format with the utmost accuracy. DSD captures the audio at a much higher resolution and dynamic range than PCM audio or bouncing files within a digital audio workstation, which then enables conversion to any needed PCM formats such as 24-bit/96kHz from the highest possible source quality. And as audio formats advance in the future, DSD audio ensures the archived audio can be reproduced in relevant formats without sonic compromise. Even when recording in PCM format, the audio captured has a much higher resolution and greater dynamic range than bouncing files within a DAW.

The Tascam DA-3000SD facilitates precise monitoring with dedicated volume control. Studio engineers know that proper level-matching is crucial for making an accurate sonic analysis. To address this, the DA-3000SD now features a dedicated output volume control for better integration with one's existing monitoring system.
Both recording and playback synchronization is possible by cascading multiple units, thus creating a DSD multitrack environment. By connecting eight DA-3000SDs, users can record up to 16 tracks simultaneously. Whether the task involves providing two-track recordings after a recording session or live show, broadcast, multitrack recording, or any other professional audio application, the DA-3000SD is a complete and flexible solution.

In addition to its key features, the new Tascam DA-3000SD has a wealth of additional capabilities, including an auto file save function to prevent data loss in the unforeseen event of power loss and a panel lock feature for fail safe operation. With its comprehensive Input / Output capability for both analog and digital audio, the DA-3000SD can make itself at home in any studio environment.
The Tascam DA-3000SD supports analog audio with balanced and unbalanced connections, while digital audio for PCM is provided via AES-EBU and S/PDIF. Digital audio I/O for DSD is provided with SDIF-3/DSD-raw terminals. Additionally, the DA-3000SD features a port for USB memory, for convenient audio playback or mutual copying with SD cards. There is also a dedicated USB keyboard port — enabling to connect a keyboard for folder/file name input and external control.

The DA-3000SD provides a wealth of convenience features for intuitive operation. This includes a highly visible 24-dot level meter that provides the clear visual feedback needed, with a brightness control to set it as bright or dim as needed. Further, the unit is equipped with a 128 x 64-dot OLED display with a wide viewing angle for high visibility.
With its compact 1RU rack mountable form factor, the DA-3000SD can be conveniently placed where it is most needed. In addition to being able to synchronize and cascade multiple DA-3000SD units together for clock synchronization and recording/playback timing synchronization, the DA-3000SD is ready to sync with Word Clock — thanks to its Word In/Out/Thru support, with Out and Thru being switchable. For even greater operational convenience, the DA-3000SD can be controlled via the included RC-10 remote for comprehensive integration with professional audio systems.

Anyone interested in using thew Tascam DA-3000SD recorder ($1,439 retail) shouldn't't forget that Tascam also offers its Hi-Res Editor software, one of the only ways to edit native DSD master recordings, available for download free of charge. Tascam Hi-Res Editor for Windows and Macintosh computers, plays and edits up to 11.2MHz DSD or 384kHz WAV files. The software allows playback and export of DSD files without converting to PCM audio. This app is available a free download.
