HEAD acoustics Promotes Days of Acoustics 2020 Online Seminars

Record. Analyze. Understand. In 2020, you are all sitting in the front row! This is the inspirational appeal for this year's HEAD acoustics "Day of Acoustics" roadshow, a series of free online seminars with dedicated focus topics, taking place from October 29 to December 03, 2020. The online sessions are offered by HEAD acoustics experts in integrated acoustics solutions, sound and vibration analysis, and audio measurement, in areas such as telecommunications, automotive, and speech and audio quality optimization.

While on the one hand, we experience the benefit of having communication possibilities anytime and anywhere and use all types of communication platforms allowing us to interact in virtual conferences without being present physically - we also experience significant variations in communication quality, especially when being involved in virtual meetings. The question is: What is communication quality and which factors distinguish good communication quality from poor communication quality?

The world of communication and entertainment is evolving and consumer expectations for audio quality continue to increase, and with it the requirements for improved test equipment that can accurately predict the perception of human hearing and speech. A head and torso simulator (HATS) is an objective measurement instrument with built-in, human-like ear and mouth simulators that provides a realistic reproduction of the acoustic properties of an average adult human.

Dr. Jan Rennies-Hochmuth has been awarded a grant from the “Klaus Tschira Boost Fund” for his research on personalized hearing systems for improved speech communication at the Hearing, Speech and Audio Technology Division (HSA) of the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT in Oldenburg. Rennies-Hochmuth’s research work aims to understand better how speech is perceived in complex listening conditions and above all how information is combined across both ears.
