Ross Introduces IGGY AoIP AES67 to MADI Converter at IBC 2018

Following the introduction of the new NEWT IP Gear series of products at NAB 2018, where Ross offers a simple SMPTE ST2110 compliant IP gateway with audio and video crossbars for I/O routing and more, at the IBC 2018 show in Amsterdam Ross expanded the possibilities on audio-over-IP (AoIP) connectivity with the introduction of IGGY, a clever and very useful AES67 / ST2110 to MADI audio converter box, which is powered over Ethernet and supports for NMOS, EmBER+, Dante/SAP, Livewire+ and DashBoard environments.

The new generation Lawo mc²56 mixing console was unveiled at the IBC 2018 show in Amsterdam. At at a time when the German company is expanding its portfolio of solutions to cover virtually every single area of an IP-based content production infrastructure, for any format or distribution platform, Lawo did not forget its core audio solutions. The new Lawo mc²56 expands its power and capabilities, creating the first IP-native audio production to fully support all relevant AoIP standards, from SMPTE 2110 and AES67, to RAVENNA, DANTE or even MADI digital audio streams.

The IBC show is always an important event to remind us of some key perspectives having to do with audio technology, content production, and distribution, which are at the core of our interests. Just like music is now predominantly available on streaming services, radio and television content are now being distributed over the Internet, while movies and lots of other content is available directly to all of us in multiple platforms and services. With audio networking expanding in all markets from live sound to installation, studio and broadcast, Audinate has been developing ways to make Dante network integration even easier for manufacturers to implement, even for the simplest applications just a few channels. And Audinate also announced plans to support SMPTE ST-2110 in the Dante platform by the end of 2018.

With the recent publication of the new SMPTE ST 2110 suite of standards for real-time media transport over IP and the critical role of AES67 in defining the audio component of these, the 143rd International AES Convention in New York, co-located with the NAB Show New York 2017, will be an important moment for the audio industry to learn, engage, experiment and plan its future. The Audio Engineering society, the Media Networking Alliance, and other industry organizations will focus on education, education, education.

Member companies of the Media Networking Alliance (MNA), the trade association established to promote the adoption of the high-performance AES67 AoIP interoperability open standard, are exhibiting and participating in a wide range of promotional activities at this year’s NAB show. MNA member companies are sponsoring education sessions and hosting live interoperability demos throughout NAB 2017, including the IP Showcase, promoted to demonstrate interoperability with the new SMPTE ST 2110 standard.
