In July 2022, the Saffelberg Investment group acquired all assets, teams and rights of AURO-3D and founded a new company, Newauro, with the intention to further support the growth of the format and technology suite across all markets. Based in Belgium like the original Auro Technologies company, Newauro announced that it's collaborating with Eastech to demonstrate its latest AURO-Scene virtual immersive audio technology at CES 2024.

Remember smart speakers? Apparently Amazon doesn't want to. At that time of the year when traditionally Amazon would introduce the latest models of its Echo smart speakers, this year the company only announced a new smart display, the next generation Echo Show 8 with an upgraded processor, spatial audio, and a built-in smart home hub. And for those who don't even want the speaker, Amazon introduced a new Echo Hub, a smart home control panel. Amazon did expand on the audio glasses category, with two ugly frames that are said to have a long-lasting battery.

The new Sonos Era 300 is a completely new design that is supposed to deliver some form of "spatial audio". The more compact Era 100 redefines the Sonos One concept with a more advanced design.

TDK Introduces New SmartSound MEMS Microphones and Development Platform Plus VibeSense360 Solution Suite for TWS Designs

At CES 2023, TDK InvenSense introduced the T5838 and T5837 PDM MEMS microphones that offer 68 dBA SNR consuming only 130 µA in always-on mode and 330 µA in high-performance mode. The company also announced the new SmartSound One development platform that provides a plug-and-play evaluation interface for its MEMS microphones, and the new VibeSense360 hardware and software solution suite for advanced true wireless stereo features.

After two years without any relevant announcements on the smart speaker arena, Amazon announced updated versions of its popular Echo devices. All-new Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock deliver up to two-times the bass of the previous generation, add a temperature sensor, double as eero mesh wifi extenders. More significant, the Echo Studio flagship features a new spatial audio processing technology and upgraded drivers to do what it promised when it launched four years ago.

When Amazon recently announced its latest Echo Studio smart speaker, focusing on audio quality and promising an "immersive" and "3D Audio" experience, the partnership with Dolby Laboratories was highlighted. The same day, Dolby confirmed that its Dolby Atmos Music format will be supported directly on the Echo Studio with content in the new object-based format being streamed through Amazon Music HD. Dolby states, "listening to music in Dolby Atmos on Echo Studio will unleash every detail as it was meant to be heard, completely immersing fans in a whole new way."
