Smart Speaker Owners Own at Least One Smart Home Device

New research from Parks Associates reveals a strong correlation between smart speaker and smart home device ownership — 60% of smart speaker owners and/or smart display owners own at least one smart home device, versus 34% of US broadband households overall. The firm's new research, Smart Speaker and Smart Display Market Assessment, identifies key market drivers and barriers in this product category and assesses growth in the smart speaker and display market via topline market forecasts.

Parks Associates is predicting that headphones and earphones are likely to experience sales spikes with the world changing to Work at Home, Home Schooling, and Entertainment-In-Place. The company's research highlights the need for enhanced user experience to aid with device integration as audio market shifts from whole-room home theater systems to standalone connected devices. Podcast, music, and news consumption habits are also changing as a result of the current public health crisis with COVID-19.

International research firm Parks Associates announced that Research Analyst Dina Abdelrazik will speak at CEDIA Expo, September 6 and 7 in San Diego, CA. Abdelrazik will address the impact that voice will have on user interfaces and specifically new partnerships within the smart home and will detail Parks Associates latest research indicating that Smart Speakers rate poor against Smart Home Devices measured in terms of Net Promoter Score, a metric of customer satisfaction and loyalty.

Parks Associates' new report "Global Connected Living Outlook: Expanding IoT Momentum" reports 27% of U.S. broadband households own at least one smart speaker, and that nearly 40% of consumers planning to purchase a smart home device find interoperability with either Amazon or Google personal assistants is important. Parks Associates's research on Home Security also reveals that 75% of home security installations in 2017 included smart control features.
