Global Professional AV Industry Will Decline in 2020; Growth to Resume in 2021

The global pro AV industry reached a peak of $259 billion in 2019. Due to the global pandemic, the industry is expected to decline to $239 billion in 2020, according to the new 2020 AV Industry Outlook and Trends Analysis (IOTA) produced by AVIXA, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association. IOTA shows the industry recovering back its pre-COVID levels in 2022 before growing to $315 billion in 2025. This represents a 5.8% five-year compound annual growth rate (CAGR) and will drive industry revenue $56 billion beyond its 2019 level.

The company announced the end of alpha development phase and the release of CLIO pocket 2.12 x64 software, the much requested and highly anticipated 64-bit enabled release of CLIO pocket which runs under the latest macOS 10.15 Catalina - which dropped support for 32-bit applications and strengthened the security requirements for applications distributed outside the App Store. China: 90% of Users Love Their Smart Speakers - 88% in the UK

The exploding popularity of smart speakers in China is confirmed by findings from the latest Strategy Analytics consumer survey. The report, 2019 Smart Speaker User Survey – China Results, found that 63% of people who do not currently use a smart speaker plan to buy one within the next year. Another 22% say they will purchase a smart speaker later on, suggesting that smart speakers overall should reach at least another 85% of the population.

While I visited the exhibits at the excellent Colorado Convention Center during the 2019 CEDIA Expo in Denver, I was frequently asked about my impressions of the show - but often it was as if people were asking me to validate their own negative impressions - because "this industry has seen better days...", and "the show is smaller than ever." I saw the show in a different perspective, which I will address in this report.
