At ISE 2024 in Barcelona, Amadeus debuted three new models of its A 470 ‘Avignon Columns’ Series line array speakers including ‘Straight’, ‘Focus, and ‘Wide’ versions. Initially designed for use at the world-famous Avignon Festival, but now available as production models, the column speaker series offers broadband music reinforcement intended for the highest-quality music performance needs, combining Purifi Audio co-developed drivers and high-quality planar ribbons.

The new QRP40/90 from Dutch Pro-Ribbon pioneers Alcons Audio is a 2-way point-source column system with high-Q directivity for increased projection control. The new slim design is to be used as a vertical sound system, for both permanent and portable applications, and packs a 1:1 non-compressed linear sound reproduction, with up to 90% less distortion. The transducer I characterized in this Test Bench is a high-end ribbon tweeter from a Shanghai, China-based company, Fountek Electronics Co., Ltd. Fountek was founded in April 2003 with a mission statement to supply strictly high-end two-channel products. We received its new third-generation ribbon tweeter, the NeoX 3.0, with an 80 mm × 12 mm × 0.15 mm thick reinforced sandwich (960 mm2 radiating area), closed-back injection-molded rear cavity with two aluminum heatsinks and a built-in transformer. Since its inception, Beston has focused on high-frequency ribbon devices using a Kapton substrate. The first transducer Beston sent to Voice Coil’s Test Bench column was the RT002a ribbon tweeter.
