Patent Review: Passive Cardioid Speaker

Gunness, now with Fulcrum Acoustic, and previously with Electro-Voice and Eastern Acoustic Works, is no stranger to this field of research where he holds numerous patents.This review is a fascinating read, especially given that Fulcrum has already proven the validity of the proposed designs in actual products. It seems clear that Gunness achieved “a very good design that should advance the art in the category of cardioid devices,” as Croft notes.

The FW15 is the world's first cardioid stage monitor incorporating Fulcrum Acoustic's patented Passive Cardioid Technology. This proprietary technology enables tour-grade, low-profile FW15 stage monitors to attenuate rear low frequency radiation which interferes with the audience, stage microphones and front fills.

Fulcrum Acoustic has announced the new CCX12 12-Inch Subcardioid Coaxial Loudspeaker range. Joining the CCX1295 (90° x 45°) model, announced last summer, the innovative coaxial product line now features a full range of horn patterns allowing coverage to be tailored for a wide range of applications. New models include the CCX1265 (60° x 45°), CCX1277 (75° x 75°), CCX1200 (100° x 100°) and CCX1226 (120° x 60°).
