DSP Concepts Adds THX Spatial Audio to Audio Weaver Development Platform

With the audio industry apparently determined to push forward the evolution towards spatial audio reproduction, manufacturers need tools to add the experience to their new product designs. Starting now, brands building on Audio Weaver can easily deploy THX Spatial Audio to bring immersive sound home entertainment devices to market. The partnership adds valuable new IP to DSP Concepts's library of 500 market-proven Audio Weaver modules.

Fraunhofer confirmed that Cadence Design Systems is now offering decoder implementations supporting the new MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile and has joined the MPEG-H Audio System trademark program administered by Fraunhofer. Adding MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile decoding capabilities to Cadence’s industry-leading Tensilica HiFi DSP designs opens up the potential to bring interactive and immersive sound to millions of users worldwide.

What do we expect exactly from Spatial Sound? A true tri-dimensional representation of sound in space? An effective way to translate virtual acoustics? A limitless soundstage for infinite creativity? In addition to 3D audio formats Dolby Atmos, MPEG-H and DTS:X, Sennheiser's flagship AMBEO Soundbar now also supports Sony’s 360 Reality Audio, which is directly targeted at music and uses Sony’s object-based 360 Spatial Sound technology, basically an MPEG-H 3D Audio scheme, to place individual sounds in a spherical sound field.

Sound United, parent company to Denon, Polk Audio, Marantz, Definitive Technology, HEOS, Classé, and Boston Acoustics, announced the immediate availability of MPEG-H 3D Audio format support across a wide range of home theater products. Working alongside Fraunhofer IIS, the primary developer of the MPEG-H Audio standard, selected Denon and Marantz AV amplifiers and AV preprocessors will receive MPEG-H support via a firmware update.

Fraunhofer IIS announced that Analog Devices is offering certified decoder implementations supporting the new MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile on its ADSP-215xx series of audio digital signal processors (DSPs). Analog Devices's DSPs are used extensively for audio video receivers, soundbars, speakers and headphones. Adding MPEG-H 3D Audio Baseline Profile decoding capabilities to Analog Devices’ ADSP-215xx series of audio DSPs will bring immersive and personalized audio experiences to more consumers.
