Near Field Magnetic Induction (NFMI): Dreams of Wireless Hearables

One of the leading names in NFMI is FreeLinc Technologies, a research and development company focused on the adoption of this technology as a new wireless standard in the Public Safety, Military, Healthcare, and Consumer markets. For its January 2017 issue, audioXpress invited Dr. Michael Abrams, Freelinc’s Chief Executive Officer, to share his valuable perspective about the role of NFMI in wireless audio applications.

Following the announcement made earlier, on December 7, 2016, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) officially adopted Bluetooth 5 as the latest version of the Bluetooth core specification. Key updates to Bluetooth 5 include longer range, faster speed, and larger broadcast message capacity, as well as improved interoperability and coexistence with other wireless technologies.
