Sonos Unveils New Arc Ultra Soundbar Featuring Sound Motion Technology

Sonos announced Sonos Arc Ultra, a new premium soundbar that also debuts the new Sound Motion transducer technology that finally leverages some of the original Mayht patents. Part of the new generation of advanced designs that the Sonos engineering team is creating, the Sonos Arc Ultra is able to reinvent what a premium soundbar is capable of doing. With the new soundbar, Sonos also introduced Sub 4 with a refreshed design, both systems tightly integrated with Sonos app updates that deliver a significant progress in performance.

Our readers will recognize the name from the April 2022 announcement of the acquisition by Sonos of Mayht Holding BV, for "$100 million in existing cash on hand.” Having followed their work through a number of patent publications, Mayht's technology triggered Croft's curiosity, for its unconventional structural designs, appearing to represent fresh thinking. Sonos Announces Acquisition of Dutch Speaker Company Mayht

Sonos announced the acquisition of Mayht Holding BV, a Netherlands-based company that invented a dual-driver topology speaker design that uses multiple motors, symmetrically distributed across the membrane, allowing for a shallow design. In demonstrations of its technology, dubbed Heartmotion, Mayht frequently compared the performance-to-size ratio with the nearest example from Sonos, and the company's advisory board included two former Sonos technical and sales executives.
