HP Inc. To Acquire HyperX, the Gaming Division of Kingston

Aiming to accelerate growth in peripherals and expand its gaming ecosystem, HP announced a definitive agreement to acquire HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology Company. The acquisition is said to support HP’s strategy to drive growth in its Personal Systems business, where gaming and peripherals are attractive segments. HyperX’s product portfolio spans a range of gaming peripherals, including headsets, keyboards, mice, mouse pads, USB microphones, and console accessories.

HyperX, the gaming division of Kingston Technology, announced the HyperX Cloud Flight S wireless gaming headset is now available and shipping. This new gaming-grade wireless headset is an interesting design since it offers complete freedom with free-standing Qi-certified wireless charging and up to 30 hours of battery life. Working with 2.4GHz WiFi wireless audio connectivity for low latency, the Cloud Flight S features 50mm dynamic drivers which are optimized to render virtual 7.1 surround sound from games into immersive binaural.

The gaming accessories market continues its ascent, with 76 million units shipped worldwide in 2018, according to a new industry report from Futuresource Consulting. That’s an increase of 22% on 2017, generating a retail value of US$3.1 billion from a combination of headsets, speakers, keyboards and mice. Last year’s headset growth won’t be repeated this year, with Futuresource forecasts pointing to a minor decline in volumes for 2019 due to cyclical hardware trends for games consoles.
