Speaker Measurements: Replacing IEC 60268-5 (Part 2) - The Importance of Measurements

This article concludes the examination by Geoff Hill of the work taking place on loudspeaker measurement standards, and the progress the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) has made with its update efforts, also resulting from the work of the Audio Engineering Society's Standards Committee. We learn how these new standards apply to measurements of sound in 3D space and in production environments, SPL using voltage sensitivity, and the measurements of microspeakers. The IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) and USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) announced that IEC has formally adopted the latest USB-IF specifications for high-speed data delivery and enhanced usages for device charging. In particular, the USB Type-C Cable and Connector, USB Power Delivery and USB 3.1 (SuperSpeed USB 10 Gbps) specifications. These specifications define a truly single-cable solution for audio/video, data and power delivery.

Switched mode circuits are increasingly being used today in electronic devices. Due to the rapid switching speeds found in these switched mode circuits, the probability of high frequency ground connection interferences is also becoming more prevalent. A correctly specified and placed ground choke, using Schurter’s range of power IEC modules with line filter and optional voltage selector (step switch), offers a simple and safe solution.
