DTS Tackles Dialogue Intelligibility Problems Directly on TVs

One of the audio technology highlights at IFA 2024 was the announcement by DTS of its new Clear Dialogue on-device solution for TV OEMs. Leveraging its vast experience and IP portfolio with audio processing and enhancement technologies, from content production and distribution, all the way to the home, the Xperi subsidiary was able to apply AI-based audio processing to deliver a solution that identifies, separates and enhances spoken dialogue for TV audio to improve user experience.

iZotope, now a part of Native Instruments, announced RX 11, the latest version of the famous audio repair and forensics suite, now featuring new machine learning tools for tackling noise, and loudness management tools for music streaming. The new software update combines the power of visual-based spectral editing with new intelligent real-time dialogue isolation and music repair features, plus new purpose-built tools for fixing and polishing audio.

Even before NAB 2024 opened in Las Vegas, Blackmagic Design announced DaVinci Resolve 19, a major new update to its software suite which adds new Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, over 100 feature upgrades such as IntelliTrack AI, Ultra NR noise reduction, multi source editing, new Fairlight AI audio panning to video, ducker track FX, and ambisonic surround sound, plus new features in Blackmagic Cloud for large customers.

Steinberg released a new version of Nuendo, the company’s most complete DAW software, offering advanced features that traditionally focus on post-production for film, TV, game audio and now also immersive sound production. Among many powerful features serving those core applications, the new version of Nuendo adds headphone’s frequency response matching and emulation, together with Dolby Atmos rendering for headphone monitoring.

Among the many announcements of more hardware purposely designed for broadcast and content production operations, at the NAB 2022 Show in Las Vegas, German company Lynx Technik AG unveiled a new hardware module in its renowned yellobrik series, that features Artificial Intelligence from Audionamix. The IDC (Instant Dialog Cleaner) 1411 yellobrik module was designed for operations with serial digital video signals, and incorporates the AI technology from Audionamix for effective noise removal directly in the signal flow.

Waves Audio offers some of the world's leading professional audio signal processing technologies and plugins, but it's hard to notice how different or good these tools actually are, since Waves basically only highlights the discounts, even when it's something completely new. Among the recent announcements, Waves launched Clarity Vx Pro and Clarity Vx, two real-time noise removal plugins for voice and dialogue, powered by the company's AI audio technology, Waves Neural Networks.

Audionamix, the software company specializing in audio source separation, introduced its new Instant Dialogue Cleaner (IDC) plug-in, its first real-time, cloudless solution. IDC offers unique and effective dialogue cleaning technology through an intuitive interface, and is compatible with many post-production and broadcast workflows. The software is available for pre-launch sale and will officially be released on July 17.
