Xperi Corporation - the owner of DTS and HD Radio - and TiVo Corporation announced they entered into a definitive agreement to merge in an all-stock transaction, representing approximately $3 billion of combined enterprise value. The transaction creates a much larger consumer and entertainment technology business and one of the industry’s largest intellectual property (IP) licensing platforms with a diverse portfolio of entertainment and semiconductor intellectual property.

Acconeer and Imagimob Combine Radar Technology and Edge AI for Gesture Control Applications

By combining Edge AI software from Imagimob, a company specializing in artificial intelligence development, with Pulsed Coherent Radar technology from Acconeer, the radar sensor specialists, the two Swedish companies have created an innovative platform for gesture control that is perfect for consumer electronics products. Scheduled to be demonstrated at CES 2020 (January 7-10) in Las Vegas, the solution will be implemented for application with wireless headphones, trained to recognize five hand gestures with high accuracy and close to zero latency.

China: 90% of Users Love Their Smart Speakers - 88% in the UK

The exploding popularity of smart speakers in China is confirmed by findings from the latest Strategy Analytics consumer survey. The report, 2019 Smart Speaker User Survey – China Results, found that 63% of people who do not currently use a smart speaker plan to buy one within the next year. Another 22% say they will purchase a smart speaker later on, suggesting that smart speakers overall should reach at least another 85% of the population.

Smart Speaker Market to Reach 92 Million Units Shipped in 2019

The smart speaker market will grow by 35% this year, according to SAR Insight & Consulting’s Latest Digital Assistant Platform Forecast DATAbase, with shipments reaching 92 million. Amazon remains the market leader, but its smart speaker market share has declined and now represents approximately a third (33%) of the total volume anticipated in 2019. Total voice software unit shipments are expected to increase significantly to 2024.
