audioXpress September 2021 Takes Speaker Building to the Next Level

audioXpress September 2021 celebrates its Speaker Builder magazine origins, once again offering an expanded focus on loudspeaker building, design, and testing. Mike Klasco provides an update on Speaker Technology, Claus Futtrup and Jeff Candy discuss Parameter Estimation and Box Simulation with Speakerbench, and Geoff Hill tells us the Tetrahedral Test Chamber Story. In this edition we pay tribute to Roger Russell (1935-2021) and we feature two great DIY projects. Now available online and in print.

The August 2021 edition of audioXpress is now available in print and online. Read our Acoustical Solutions Round-Up 2021 and enjoy the DIY perspectives from Ethan Winer and Thomas Perazella on dealing with room measurements and treatments. David Logvin reviews Audio Precision's APx517B Acoustic Audio Analyzer, while Richard Honeycutt reflects on acoustic challenges for online and in-person meetings. SEAS continues hard at work, expanding its Excel Graphene driver series with new models that fully explore the benefits of its proven magnesium cones enhanced with graphene coating that effectively eliminates resonances and makes them more resistant. SEAS now introduced the Excel Graphene W12CY004 (E0070-08), a very compact (4" cone) driver featuring a state-of-the-art FEA optimized motor-design that can be used both as a dedicated midrange and as a woofer in a small compact speaker.

Speakerbench is a web-based application created by Jeff Candy (San Diego, CA) and Claus Futtrup (SEAS, Norway), combining several special-purpose modules aimed at low-frequency analysis and design of loudspeakers. According to the authors, the online tool is made available to whoever might find it useful, including the loudspeaker DIY community. The authors encourage user feedback and even invite software developers to implement the techniques.

Over the years, audioXpress and Voice Coil magazines have published several company profiles on speaker manufacturers. In 2015, a book was published to celebrate 100 years of the loudspeaker and, in particular, the remarkable contributions of the Danish loudspeaker industry (audio and electronics industry in general is the fourth largest exporting industry in Denmark). This is a valuable book that anyone interested about the loudspeaker industry needs to read.
