dbx-tv Audio Processing Solutions Are Now Total Sonics

Originating in the 1980s, dbx-tv evolved to offer complete DSP audio enhancement solutions and is now called Total Sonics. Proud of its 40-year legacy of television audio excellence, the company embraced a broader mission to make any device with speakers deliver the best sound possible, even those with the tightest of design constraints. Total Sonics is headquartered outside Boston, with representation in Shanghai, Tokyo, and Seoul.

Originally presented at the Audio Engineering Society (AES) New York convention in 2018, the release of the DeMIX Pro software established a strong new contender in the field of audio separation. Meanwhile, AudioSourceRE has used machine learning to take the concept further, while the latest version 5 of DeMIX Pro and DeMIX Essentials has set a new standard for AI-powered audio separation, making the unimaginable totally possible. Now, AudioSourceRE is working to offer the same technology, running in real-time embedded systems!

Eventide has released SplitEQ, an advanced equalization plug-in featuring a new Structural Split patented technology. At first glance, it’s a parametric EQ with 8-bands of filters, but the Structural Split engine divides the incoming audio into separate Transient and Tonal streams that feed the 8 bands. This approach makes common EQ problems easy to solve — even in a complex mix.

At the NAB 2019 show, Blackmagic Design announced several exciting new products, including the new DaVinci Resolve 16 software and a whole new range of 8K products. Audio professionals will benefit from new Resolve 16 features, including immersive 3D audio features for Dolby Atmos, MPEG-H and SMPTE ST 2098 metadata support, new Elastic Wave capabilities, improved overview of automation parameters, enhanced loudness monitoring, new plugins and measurement tools, and a new foley sound library.

When we look at Adobe's portfolio of solutions, in a family of 21 core software programs, there is one for audio: Adobe Audition. Audition, used for audio recording, mixing, and restoration software, was acquired from Syntrillium Software in 2003 and was previously known as Cool Edit Pro. Recently I did an interview with Adobe's Audio Product Manager, Durin Gleaves, to understand why and how exactly the company is evolving its software using artificial intelligence and machine learning.

DTS, a wholly owned subsidiary of Xperi Corporation, announced that its DTS Virtual:X post-processing technology is now available in several popular Analog Devices DSP chips. The fully-certified DTS Virtual:X SDKs are ready for integration into AVRs and soundbars, with the first Analog Devices-enabled DTS Virtual:X firmware updates scheduled for Summer 2018. The DTS Virtual:X solution is now available on the following Analog Devices DSP products: ADSP-2148x, ADSP-2157x, ADSP-SC57x, ADSP-2158x.
