Test Bench: Wavecor WF275BD01 10.75” Home Audio Woofer

Part of a new series of drivers announced in October 2020 by Wavecor, this woofer could also be advantageous in high-powered studio monitors. This high-power design targets home audio and home theater applications, including two-way (with larger ribbon/AMT drivers, or compression driver/horn combinations) and three-way speakers. The driver in this Test Bench is the Wavecor TW022WA09 22mm high-end textile dome tweeter. The TW022WA09 was unveiled by Wavecor together with the TW022WA08/10 high-end tweeter, a new series of 22mm chambered neodymium drivers with increased sensitivity. The precision cloth (textile) dome ensures an extended frequency response, while the voice coil design offers higher power handling and low resonance frequency. This edition of Test Bench characterizes a new shallow mount 10” home audio subwoofer. The SW280WA01 is a new low-profile subwoofer from Wavecor, the China-based high-end OEM partnership with former Vifa engineers Allan Isaksen and Per Madsen. During the High End show in Munich I caught up once again with Wavecor, the expert high-end driver manufacturer, which usually has an important presence at the Munich show. They always have many clients that release finished products using Wavecor drivers at this show. Not that all brands will reveal that they do... We spoke with Allan Isaksen, General Manager and Chairman of Wavecor to learn more about the latest products and the company.

In this edition of Test Bench - already from Voice Coil’s archives, originally published in September 2010 - Vance Dickason measures the WF120BD04 midbass woofer from Wavecor, part of a complete range of 4¾” transducers, including the WF120BD03 (4 ohm version), which he found to be well-crafted drivers. Both were designed as high performance bass and midrange units for very compact monitors and high-end hi-fi speakers and feature a Balanced Drive motor proprietary structure.
