Peerless and Dirac Announce Strategic Partnership for Room Correction Integration

Peerless, a Tymphany subsidiary, and Dirac, the Swedish digital audio processing specialists, announced a strategic partnership to improve sound reproduction across the home and professional audio markets. The partnership integrates Dirac’s Dirac Live solution into Peerless’ Flow DSP audio development platform to enable manufacturers of home audio and professional audio systems to more seamlessly and efficiently integrate premium room correction into their product portfolio.

This review looks at a patent awarded in October 2016 to George Bullimore, on behalf of Tymphany. Considering the number of patents on shallow drivers, and the fact that the inventor also previously developed transducers for Harman International and holds other key patents, this is no doubt an interesting document to analyze in depth. A New Must-Read Loudspeaker History Book. SEAS: The History of SEAS Fabrikker is an engaging story about the Norwegian manufacturer and its place in the Nordic speaker industry. The book about Scandinavian Electro Acoustic Systems (SEAS) was written by Danish loudspeaker engineer Claus Futtrup and jointly published by SEAS and Futtrup. Mike Klasco reviews the book for The Audio Voice newsletter and audioXpress.

For several years, Mike Klasco and Steve Tatarunis wrote a series of articles under the header Parts is Parts where they have explored loudspeaker drivers, how they work, and all the different parts and components. In this specific article, the two audio industry experts provide an excellent introduction to high frequency drivers, revisiting some key historical designs. Over the years, audioXpress and Voice Coil magazines have published several company profiles on speaker manufacturers. In 2015, a book was published to celebrate 100 years of the loudspeaker and, in particular, the remarkable contributions of the Danish loudspeaker industry (audio and electronics industry in general is the fourth largest exporting industry in Denmark). This is a valuable book that anyone interested about the loudspeaker industry needs to read.

As a result of a new distribution agreement, Peerless by Tymphany’s high-end drivers are now available globally through global electronic components distributor Digi-Key Electronics. Since 2005, Tymphany has manufactured drivers under the Peerless, Vifa, and Tymphany brands. Recently all these brands were unified under a single brand name: Peerless by Tymphany.

Following the publication of the original Hideaway TL Sub project in audioXpress July 2006, Bjørn Johannesen submitted a follow-up of its “invisible” subwoofer project, using a new updated driver - a Peerless 10˝ SLS 830668 woofer - and a slimmer profile to fit under its new couch, with only 15cm of free space.
