OCA Alliance Demonstrates Increasing Pace of AES67 / AES70 Development Worldwide

Promoting the AES70 open network media device control standard – aka Open Control Architecture (OCA), the ecosystem of products and technologies that support the AES70 open network control standard – OCA Alliance member companies presented live demonstrations of development tools and proof of concept solutions at the Integrated Systems Europe 2018 show. Development tools and proof of concept implementations from OCA Alliance members across three continents includes single chip solutions.

It’s the latest trend in live sound. The professional audio industry wants to move away from the limitations and restrictions of stereo of dual mono configurations. This year’s Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) show evidenced how far professional AV industry recognition of the power and potential of OCA (AES70) has grown. On its booth, the OCA Alliance promoted awareness and adoption of Open Control Architecture - also known as OCA and standardized as AES70 - running two key “proof of application” demonstrations, and showing Archwave’s AudioLAN 2.0, a unique commercially available solution leveraging both AES 67 and OCA (AES70).

OCA Alliance confirmed that Open Control Architecture (OCA) – an open control and monitoring standard for professional audio and AV media network devices – has been officially standardized on 4 January 2016 by the Audio Engineering Society Standards Committee (AESSC) in the newly published AES70-2015 standard for audio applications of networks - Open Control Architecture.

OCA Alliance member companies Yamaha Commercial Audio, TC Group and Salzbrenner Stagetec, joined d&b audiotechnik in presenting the current status and future vision of Open Control Architecture, as these relate to the AV Installation and Systems Integration markets, at ISE 2015. The OCA vision of a common remote control standard to the AV industry seems to be picking up momentum.

The AES and OCA Alliance will be working together at the forthcoming 137th AES Convention in Los Angeles towards the ratification of the alliance’s proposed Open Control Architecture as an AES public standard. The alliance will also be exhibiting, demonstrating the benefits of the OCA standards-based control and monitoring architecture across networked audio devices from different manufacturers.
