Sonical Headphone 3.0 Platform Supports Cingo Dynamic Spatial Audio Technology From Fraunhofer

In anticipation of an exciting showcase planned for CES 2024 - mostly restricted to manufacturers and technology providers interested in exploring the Headphone 3.0 approach - Sonical has confirmed a new strategic partnership. The company headquartered in Silicon Valley is working with Fraunhofer IIS to offer its Cingo binaural rendering and Spatial Audio technology running on Sonical CosmOS, specifically designed for hearables with downloadable plugins.

The current generation of Fraunhofer's technologies enables the creation, transmission, and experience of an entirely new universe of immersive and high quality sound. Looking to showcase tomorrow's audio experiences and cooperate with manufacturers to bring state-of-the-art audio technologies into their products, the research institute will be at CES 2023, in Las Vegas (January 5 - 8), at booth 15915 in the Central Hall.

DSP Concepts announced that its Audio Weaver development platform for audio products now also offers access to the Fraunhofer Cingo family of immersive processing tools. The agreement with Fraunhofer IIS allows audio product developers to enhance headphones, earbuds and speakers with binaural audio processing for immersive 3D sound with head tracking, as well as enhance existing stereo content, including loudness optimization and equalization. Cingo supports all channel-based formats and direct rendering of audio objects with associated position metadata, which can be transmitted as MPEG-H Audio.

Fraunhofer IIS and Hulu announced an agreement for the use of Fraunhofer Cingo immersive audio headphone rendering solution for virtual reality and mobile devices. Users of Hulu’s VR app will benefit from movies and TV shows streamed using the HE-AAC surround sound audio codec and rendered for headphones through Fraunhofer Cingo.

LG Electronics newest idea was revealed at the 2016 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona and signals an important trend on mobile devices. The LG G5 modular concept features Qualcomm’s aptX HD for wireless 24-bit sound over Bluetooth, and offers a high quality audio player, designed in cooperation with B&O Play, featuring an ESS Tech DAC and amplifier.

The Fraunhofer IIS team responsible for the development and market launch of the Cingo and Symphoria immersive 3D audio algorithms and software solutions for digital audio playback has been awarded the 2015 Joseph von Fraunhofer Prize, awarded every year in recognition of outstanding scientific work.
