STMicroelectronics announced its new series of STM32G0 microcontrollers (MCUs) targeted at powering the simplest of connected devices, offering lower power consumption and large memory density in low-pin-count packages, with enhancements to peripherals, plus support for USB Type-C and Power Delivery. The robust new Arm Cortex-M0+ series also features a simplified power connection, superior EMS protection, and class-leading hardware-based security.

The Raspberry foundation announced what it says will be its last "classic" Raspberry, introducing the new Raspberry Pi 3 Model A+ with a 1.4GHz clock speed, 5GHz wireless networking and improved thermals of a Raspberry Pi 3B+ in a smaller form factor, and at the smaller price of $25. As with the original Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+, by halving the RAM, and removing the Ethernet controller, this is an affordable platform that is certain to be extremely popular since it can be used to directly replace the Raspberry Pi 1 Model A+.

Developed based on Renesas' breakthrough SOTB (silicon-on-thin-buried-oxide) process technology, the new embedded controller achieves extreme reduction in both active and standby current consumption, a combination that was not previously possible to achieve in conventional microcontrollers (MCUs).
