Nearly a year past since Universal Audio introduced its fresh range of desktop USB-C audio interfaces with the launch of the Volt series, the company now introduced the Volt 476P and Volt 4 models. Now shipping worldwide, the new 4-in/4-out interfaces offer expanded audio connections with onboard tone shaping, 48V phantom power, Direct Monitoring for latency-free recording, a suite of audio software, and iPad/iPhone connectivity.
The new "beige" audio interface series from Universal Audio, all built with rugged metal chassis and retro wood sides, now includes the flagship 4-in/4-out Volt 476P ($469) built for content creators and bands who want to easily record larger audio projects with quality studio sound. As Universal Audio puts it, the Volt 476P is the brand's first Volt model to feature four analog preamps, with 76 Compressor (an analog compressor based on UA's 1176) and Vintage Mic Preamp (based on the legendary 610 tube preamp) modes on every input channel.
The Volt 476P features 24-bit/192kHz audio conversion on analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog connections, and also offers expanded outputs for headphones, speakers, and outboard processing, making it an interesting choice for podcasting sessions.
Also with 4-in/4-out connections, but in a more compact unit, the new Volt 4 USB-C audio interface ($239) includes just two analog mic preamps, making it portable, bus‑powered USB-C recording interface for any type of audio projects including field recordings and interviews. It features the same 24-bit/192kHz converters and Vintage Mic Preamp mode as the rest of the series.
The new Volt 476P and Volt 4 interfaces expand the rest of the series, which also features additional 1 and 2‑input models with iOS compatibility for musicians, songwriters, livestreamers, and podcasters. An included suite of audio software includes tools from Ableton, Melodyne, UJAM’s Virtual Drummer, Marshall, Ampeg, and more. All Volts include a special 30-day free trial to UAD Spark — UA’s subscription plug-in service.
