Soundboks Announces Lightest Soundboks Go Bluetooth Speaker

March 30 2022, 00:50
Soundboks, the Danish company that is also one of the most unexpected startups to ever succeed in the audio lifestyle space, continues to grow and just announced its second design in seven years. Being the famous inventors of the gigantic Soundboks Bluetooth speaker that required a reinforced dedicated backpack to be called portable, Soundboks now announced the launch of the Soundboks Go Speaker. This lighter, battery-powered version is still a big speaker for the segment, and uses an efficient Infineon Merus two-channel Class D amplifier.

Establishing a new category of Bluetooth Performance Speakers, Soundboks was launched in 2015 and has been growing ever since, co-located in Copenhagen and Los Angeles. This company is the ultimate proof that any company can succeed, when it knows its target market well, executes the product strategy well, and keeps its focus on doing one thing well. After seven years with great execution and a continuous product evolution of the original Sounboks speaker, now in its third generation, it was time for a new product that could expand the addressable market, while also expanding the ecosystem.

Built for durability, transportability, and connectivity, the new Soundboks Go takes the party experience that made the Danish company famous, into to a truly portable format, with approximately one third of the height and same width of the original Soundboks. But essentially is remains the same Bluetooth performance speaker flagship that offers up to 80 hours of playtime on a single battery charge.

At a fraction of the weight of its predecessors, the new Soundboks Go speaker still doesn't compromise on sound quality with one 10" woofer and one 1" silk dome tweeter, while its efficient Infineon Merus amplification technology extends the battery life even more. Keeping the same connectivity the company is known for, created to amplify community gatherings at concert level sound both indoor and outdoor, the Soundboks Go design continues to surprise by its "PA" aesthetic and now makes it even easier to cover large areas when combined in a network of Soundboks speakers.

"The Soundboks Go provides a new level of sound performance that has not been seen in the current Bluetooth speaker market with a speaker of this size. We are redefining what it means to be together and how we can share musical experiences without being in the same room," says co-founder Jesper Thiel Thomsen.

The newly imagined portable design weighs under 20 pounds (9.2kg), features two 72-watt continuous Class-D amplifiers, concert level volume, and TeamUP wireless connectivity with up to 4 nearby Soundboks (Gen 3) or Go speakers. While music is streamed from any Bluetooth 5.0 source, Soundboks speakers connect wirelessly linking speaker groups using the TeamUP connection, which uses SKAA wireless technology. There's also a 3.5mm stereo input jack to connect any line level source. The larger Soundboks Gen. 3 includes the Pro Panel with a microphone (XLR) and mixer/instrument (TRS) inputs, which can be linked to a Soundboks Go.

The Soundboks Go also boasts a swappable battery that offers up to 80 hours of listening on a single charge, and customizable sound profiles that enable listeners to adjust the audio based on the size and location of the space. This includes controlling the Soundboks Bass enhancer to boost bass and loudness up to 121 dB levels.

The Soundboks Go experience also introduces Soundboks mobile app. Doubling as a remote control for the Soundboks Go, the mobile app offers customizable sound profiles, a Bluetooth lock, and better control and security for the speaker. In addition, users will receive regular software updates and performance upgrades through the app.

Alongside this new product release, Soundboks introduces DIREKT, a curated live audio streaming experience for those who want to immerse themselves in live music wherever they go. DIREKT will offer its first full release live streams in April 2022. DIREKT will be available exclusively for both Soundboks Gen 3 and Soundboks Go owners.

A single Soundboks Go speaker retails for $699 US. Additional accessories including a carrying strap and separate battery packs, are sold separately.
