Sony Introduces Powerful SRS-XB13 Extra Bass Bluetooth Speaker

Portable (battery-powered) Bluetooth 5 speakers are getting another market boost beyond the original "cheap and cool" factor or earlier designs. As Sony shows with its latest SRS-XB13 compact and portable wireless speaker, users want something that plays music with enough punch and expansive sound, but that can also be used anywhere as a convenient extension of a smartphone, to take over calls and replace the low-quality speaker mode experience in a seamless way. And it must cheap...

Ready to go anywhere, thanks to a multiway strap and durable design, the new Sony SRS-XB13 Extra Bass wireless Bluetooth speaker features a long-lasting battery in a compact updated design that is purposely designed to expand sound all around. Ready for anything, the XB13 compact speaker features a durable exterior and a multiway strap that can be hung anywhere. The speaker can even be hung upside down from a higher place to create "a waterfall of music," while its small size means that users can take the XB13 anywhere they go.

Thanks to its Extra Bass down-firing bass diffusor and bass boost processing, the SRS-XB13 packs plenty of punch for a little speaker. The omnidirectional design uses a passive radiator to enhance the low-end that works together with an up-firing full range driver, enhanced with dedicated DSP from its Sound Diffusion Processor. And because it uses updated Bluetooth technology, the Sony SRS-XB13 can be wirelessly paired with another XB13 or compatible Bluetooth speaker for a larger stereo sound that reaches even further.

The XB13 design is also tough and durable, making the little speaker a perfect adventure companion. The IP67 rated speaker is waterproof and dustproof, and offers up to 16-hours of battery life at medium volume, featuring a battery indicator that also shows on the connected phone how much charge is left. Waterproof (IPX7) rating is achievable when the speaker has its USB-C cap fastened securely.

When a user needs to make a call, the SRS-XB13 features built-in microphones that are designed to support hands-free calls through the speaker at home or outside. Because the XB13 uses the latest Bluetooth technology, which removes the need for wired connections and complex set up sequences, users can benefit from a seamless wireless experience, as if the XB13 was just an extension of the connected smartphone - not using the miniature and distortion-heavy built-in phone speakers ever again.

Since Sony is now increasingly cooperating with Google and supporting the Android ecosystem, the XB13 features Google’s Fast Pair technology so that even users with compatible Android smartphones or tablets are able to connect in seconds - as though they are using an iPhone. With select Android models, simply turning on the speaker and a nearby smartphone will prompt users to connect. After pairing is active, the users can control if they wish to keep calls and music playing automatically in the Sony speaker, when both devices are within range.

The Sony XB13 also uses updated USB Type-C charging for convenient connectivity so that users can benefit from the same power adapters they already have for their smartphones. All in all, these might be seen as pretty standard features and specification for an updated Bluetooth speaker, but the Sony SRS-XB13 model is remarkable also for the fact that it will be priced at approximately $60 US, available from April 2021. And it comes in 6 colors, including black, blue, taupe, coral pink, powder blue and lemon yellow.
