Sony Electronics has announced an expansion to its UWP-D Digital Wireless Microphone systems with the new URX-P41D two-channel portable receiver, supporting a MI (Multi Interface) shoe connector with Digital Audio Interface in a more compact design. The URX-P41D boasts all the key features included in the 4th Generation UWP-D Series, such as improved high sound quality, NFC Sync for quick and easy set-up from Receiver to Transmitter, and functions such as Auto Gain mode and Output level control, making the job of recording sound even easier.
Sony has been an underrated technology leader in digital RF wireless microphone systems for many years, but its top performing solutions are mainly recognized within broadcast and digital cinema production communities. As part of its market leading UWP-D Series, Sony now introduced the URX-P41D receiver that will work with all UWP-D transmitters (backwards compatible with previous generations) and will be available as a stand-alone receiver and as part of a new kit, the UWP-D27, which will include two UTX-B40 Bodypack Transmitters.
With this new versatile receiver and the new packages, Sony offers an advanced wireless microphone solution that could be highly attractive to all digital media creators. Of course, the URX-P41D meets the most demanding standards, as expected by broadcast and news productions teams, for interviews, documentaries and series productions, particularly in complement of Sony’s XDCAM camcorders, Alpha interchangeable lens cameras and select Cinema Line cameras.
Among the key new features include for the URX-P41D two-channel portable receiver, Sony highlights the use of more advanced DSP for processing the audio signal transmitted using digital companding, improving sound quality by optimizing a time-constant range between the transmitter and receiver. According to Sony, the result is a higher fidelity audio signal with improved transient response, while maintaining the benefits of a more robust transmission with companding techniques. The receiver also features auto gain mode and output level control to offer peace of mind that the audio levels are correct.
Stable, reliable RF reception is assured by the receiver’s dual diversity tuner that always stays locked onto the strongest wireless signal. This ensures uninterrupted audio reception with no signal drop-outs. The URX-P41D uses a space diversity reception system, which achieves highly stable reception because of its two receiving antennas. The angle of the antennas on the portable receiver can also be adjusted, which helps to further eliminate signal dropout.
And like other products in the UWP-D Series, the setup process is fast, super-simple and secure. Users just need to touch a button and the UWP-D Series receiver automatically scans for clear wireless channels. Then, using one-touch NFC sync, the receiver and transmitter are securely paired and the system is immediately ready to work.
The URX-P41D 2-channel portable receiver features an external input for connection of an additional wired microphone. Ideal for on-camera interviews, the receiver’s integrated 3-channel audio mixer can assign output 1 or/and 2 freely when using two wireless microphones plus a wired mic. The External Microphone Input for an additional wired microphone widens the sound capture options. By using a Sony lavalier stereo microphone through the external microphone input, four-channel audio recording is also possible.
And using the SMAD-P5 MI (Multi Interface) shoe adaptor Sony enables direct digital audio recording and delivers high sound quality with low noise by skipping an additional D/A and A/D conversion process. Audio signals are sent directly from the receiver to the camera with need for connecting wires. The receiver draws power directly from the camera that also controls receiver On/Off for simplified power management.
This optional interface is compatible with a wide range of Sony cameras and camcorders and displays audio information on the viewfinder for enhanced usability in the field. By reducing the size of the receiver from previous generations, the URX-P41D can sit on top of the camera or ILC attached to the MI shoe adaptor or cold shoe allowing for improved balance on the camera.
To offer an integrated and ready to use solution, Sony also announced the UWP-D27 complete wireless audio package, with all the products needed for on-camera interviews, live presentations and other applications. The package includes the ECM-V1BMP omni-directional lavalier microphone, which connects to the light, compact UTX-B40 bodypack transmitter. Audio is transmitted wirelessly to the URX-P41D 2-channel portable receiver, with quick and easy wireless pairing between transmitter and receiver.
The URX-P41D receivers and UWP-D27 kits are available from April 2022 for a suggested list price of $679.99 and $1,229.99, respectively.
